Well excuse the shit out of me for asking the same question as someone else. At least I paid to ask.

Couldn't be much worse from my experience here in just a short time.

And it doesn't give others the right to act like pricks either but here they are.

Besides slamming back at the entire forum membership in general because you're having a bad day,
you're snapping at people who wished you the best of thoughts and prayers when you lost your job...after you asked for thoughts and prayers after you lost your job.

I don't expect anything from you because as you said,

I don't feel like I owe anyone on here anything

And I guess that's the way you feel. I'd feel differently myself when members offered me free ammo or for next to nothing out of their private stash.

But I'll leave you with this one thought, and then I'll leave you to yourself from now on-

I think people have been a bit on edge the past two months, and, in these uncertain times, are getting testy. We can do some good natured ribbing, and we need to build up a thick skin, but lets not attack each other. Y'all good with that?

The only two gun shops I know for sure that have kept their prices at standard markups are Carolina Gun Runners and Fuquay Gun and Gold. Both places are fantastic, but I have had a longstanding relationship with Carolina Gun Runners. I would trust several of those guys with my life. They are in the same pinch as the rest of us. They can't get the ammo quickly enough or in large enough quantities either, not due to lack of trying. The ammunitions manufacturers have ramped up production to wartime levels and are working profusely to get the product to market.

Just keep buying. Whether it’s a box or a case. Right now I’ve been buying birdshot. Added 1000 rds at just over 200 bucks in the last month. That’s a lot of clays or whatever fun shooting. Diversify your collection whenever you can. I’ve been shooting a lot more 22. Glock 44 is fun and close to G19. Others have similar offerings relatively cheap. And when things calm down remember. I’ve been around guns all my life but several big events like this remind me to keep buying keep stacking. Don’t forget. I sleep well at night but still burning is the want for more. There is a certain SC man that has the dream. And you’ll see on here he still keeps buying keeps adding. The deals are out there if you look. It’s not the Walmart clearance price but you can’t shoot money. Good luck and learn the room before you jump in. Some of these guys have known each other for a long time. You’ll never see another place with such generosity and some snark but they mean well. Well most of them anyways 😂

OK, you asked a legitimate question but one that has been worked over pretty thoroughly for the last 6 months or so. Seing as how you are new here people still tried to give you helpful answers, at least as best as they could, but for some reason you got a bit touchy and let it go downhill from there. Helpful hint: When you join a new forum hang out and lurk for a while and get the lay of the land. Also, it's the internet. If you come onto a new forum and start shart with people who have been there for years and have literally thousands of posts, you had better be wearing your asbestos long johns. Judging from some of the stuff I have seen these guys have been pretty tolerant so far.

I do think about the cost per round, and that’s why I’m building training rifles rather than using 6.5CM to bang away at 100-300 yards. For pistol my cost is so low that I don’t care, primers at $.01 or .02, powder at about the same, brass and bullets essentially free. No doubt I got lucky, but then luck favors the prepared, so accumulate some cheap brass and cheap lead and cheap knowledge, skip a few stupid things in your life and save so that when you do find an opportunity you recognize it and can capitalize on it.

There is no such thing!
According to the High Speed LowDrag Marsoc Delta Seal School that I graduated in the top of my class (correspondence school because of COVID) they said there are no such animals as 1911 Glocks. There are a few experimental Glock 1911’s though, but they were too costly as the operators that used them had egos so big they were undeployable.

And to answer the original question...shoot if you want...we dont know your personal finances...if you cant afford to shoot then dont. None of us are fortune tellers...we dont know what prices will be next week let alone anytime. And for me...no ammo shot is wasted...its all about what and how you shoot.

First, I have to say this is simultaneously the most entertaining and bitchiest thread I've seen on this forum. It made me chuckle several times.. and that says something dark about who I am as a person.

To the OP : IMO - and take this for what it's worth, as there's many folks with a lot more trigger time on here than me; I consider myself a "serious recreational" shooter -meaning that I don't compete, but I'm also not a guy who hasn't shot his EDC in 6 months; and my rifles do get shot sometime other than that last quarter of every year.

I learned pretty quickly, as a shooter on a tight budget for many , many years- that you don't have to blow through rounds and rounds of ammo on a range trip, so my advice would be to start with ammo conservation rather than ammo hoarding. Yes, it's much cheaper ( or it was) to buy in bulk, but if you can't.. or even if you can.. make more sense out of what you shoot. For carry pistol, for me, I can usually run through a single box and have a GOOD practice session. 1 mag focused on fundamentals ONLY, 1 mag focused on precision shots at different distances, 2 partial mags focused on double tapping, and then ( if you have spare mags) loading several mags with 1-3 rounds at random, to practice reloads. ..

Because I did that for many years, there's times now while I run through much more, and then think " that was a waste of ammo!" at some point, fatigue sets in .. and your just dumping ammo to make the big noise. ( a lot less true for competitive or seriously training individuals, I'm speaking about the recreational shooter here.. ya'll calm down. )

For rifle, we started coming up with "games" that made shooting fun , but didn't burn ammo. .. like shooting at chalk sticks at 50 yards with a .22 ; or "follow the leader" on a multi target board with 2 rifles.

The most fun I've had at the range in years was with a good friend shooting my 22 bolt from different positions at different targets- where we rotated picking the target and distance then competed. He said the same - it was a blast., and probably cost about $8 in ammo at today's prices.

Now if you wanna compete , that's different. Then ya' gotta be a baller.. lo. Pimpin ain't easy, but I makes my Ho's carry the range bag...

Pay what is necessary to obtain what you think is right for your defensive needs. Then buy 22lr when you can find it and an accurate 22lr bolt action. Even at today's prices you can have an enjoyable range trip and not break the bank.

You need to own enough weapons and ammunition so that you are never more than 3 action hero moves from a weapon or 2 action hero moves from a fresh mag. Save and spend accordingly.

Now I have to get back to the chiropractor. I jacked my back up last night transitioning from move 2 to 3. Luckily the noise that sent me into immediate action was just my dog farting after I fed her a stale bean burrito.

The look on my mother in law's face when I cartwheeled over her chair though was pretty awesome.
