I'm going to do something terrible and magnificent.

Nothing wrong with a little bling. I recently added a red ambi safety to my pcc.
This is beyond a "little bling" and more into full on "Liberace is my role model" territory.

But I enjoy making abominations, as my other threads should have made clear lol

I liked the one for the Spessgun build so much, I couldn't resist when I saw the purple....

And apparently Delta Team Tactical finally removed their cranium from their rectum (only took 3 and a bit weeks!) and shipped my P80 lower, so soon as that hits my FFL dude I can go collect it and the stripped lower and upper for this.

With nice weather, I can finally start The Process and pimp everything.

Now I remember why I only use matte paint, to hide my horrible rattlecan sins.....

Base coat for the anodized metallics, two thin coats and one heavier one as suggested. I'm bad at this and dropped the upper taking the pic but once the paint cures I should be able to remove the rust/paint smear. Or hide it under the bling optic!

I'm going to let these cure for at least 24hrs before I go for the next coat, which will be the actual colours. Also got to fabricate something to hold the small parts (forward assist button, mag release, safety etc) for me to paint them. Probably gonna be cardboard knowing me.

Finally, the time of the abomination is at hand!

Ugh. I didn't realise that the purple is a lot touchier than the gold and that the temp had dropped enough to cause issues. I hope I can salvage it, fortunately it was just the first coat.

This is terrible and not magnificent.

Runs, blobs, bits where it stuck to the table, the list goes on. Garbage tier spray work on my part, I got frustrated with the nooks and crannies and went too heavy and too close. However this was the trickiest rattle can I've ever tried to use, just wanted to bounce between no coverage or swamp. Came out dark too, despite using the special undercoat.

I'm trying to decide if I want to just use the pigs breakfast as is, strip it and try again or shop around for a professionally anodized lower and upper set. Guntec make an upper that matches the muzzle dingus but no lower apparently. I could go purple upper and something else lower but I wanted purple for both.

This is a bummer, but I shall persist in my stupidity!

Old school metal clothes hanger should make it easier to paint. I hang stuff from my garage door track but you could build a little jig out of pellet wood if you don't have a garage door.

If you want screws different color I'm a fan of getting a cardboard box and sticking the screws through the box only exposing the head so you don't gum up the threads.

@Cole_McD have any recommendations? Your rifles come out nice

I realised I need to paint a bunch of small parts I haven't done yet too lol

Orrrrr

Mighty kind of you! I'm terrible for advice though, I just mask with painters tape and send it on top of cardboard. Flip as needed. My mindset is that the sloppier it is, the better it wears in. Probably not gonna work well here 😅

I think I can not do the same mares nest next time, I really did get far too close and it just wasn't forgiving like the gold.

I like your outlook though!

OK, so I admit to being pure dog**** at painting, but this just may be a better way for me....

And I could do the devils own pattern with the gold and purple. Or just have the purple metallic applied evenly.

I think I'm going to invest the remains of the can I have left, undercoat a nerf gun with the drops left in the primer and try this to see if this paint will tolerate it.

So, update.

I haven't done jack since my last post. Scrubbing away at layers of paint covered in toxic chemicals just hadn't grabbed me..... So I did this:

AR15_Stripped_Purple_Billet_Upper_Receiver-A1Armory__10905.jpgTimber_Creek_Outdoors_Purple_Color_Enhanced_Parts_Kit-A1Armory.com__02440.png1263_source_1655148401.png

Yes I'm aware they are slightly different shades. At this point I just do not care. So, with that coming all I have to strip is the lower. Or just replace it. I may spray it gold, I may just leave it black but I'm definitely not screwing around with that hellish metallic purple crap again. I used up the last of the can on some scrap trying to do it right and it actually looked so bad when I was done I threw it away in disgust.

At this point I sort of want to just be done, because this boondoggle has gone on too long and cost too much for something that started out as a weird joke build.

Apparently I'm also a moron, I just noticed I ordered two purple mag releases. Jesus.

I regret starting this build more than I regret my divorce. This thing is just one giant pain in the arse after another.

I started assembling the upper. Had to crimp the pin for the forward assist because it was loose. Made a little scratch but OK.

Now I can't tighten the barrel nut because the receiver is a non standard profile and my upper block doesn't fit. Made more small scratches trying it on my workmate with a wrap because I broke the bloody workmate. Now it's almost but enough but not quite indexed.

Getting the barrel block on ruined the paint on a section because it's too thick. Had to strip a part and I'll repaint it after it's assembled.

Had to stop because I'm getting incredibly frustrated with this thing and I suspect once it's built I'm going to post it then stick it in the back of the safe and never touch this &@#*$&@ thing again.

This thing is one of the best tools I’ve purchased. I feel like I got it on here a while back.

It's almost as if the universe it trying to point out that a purple and gold leopard print AR is not a grand idea ? It's subtle, but the signs are there..... 🤢

Do I seem like someone to listen to the universe? Lol

Sorry for your pain. Some builds are just that, a real pita. I’ve done 2 ‘03s, a couple M12s and PCCs which were fun and turned out great. Btw I bought an assortment of AR tools before i started those. I’ve also done a 1917 and a Enfield No1 Mk3 and hated them both. Wished I’d never bought either donor, both were a real pita. I might make shorties out of both before I’m done with them. Wouldn’t this look better with a 20 inch barrel?
