It's Hurricane Season 2022.

Yeah, my neighbor and I were talking a couple days ago and anticipating a bunch of muggy tropical air coming in, and were surprised to see the forecast temps so low.

This is definitely weird, but I guess weird is normal for this era we are in!

A good video on the science of this storm, with isn't really a tropical system anymore, but a hybrid:

We just had a brief power outage, expecting stuff like that all day.

62 degrees and light rain here right now.....about a 5 MPH....damn power blinked off while I was typing this...........going to Annie Nannie's for breakfast...I'll try to keep Y'all posted from The Battery Oaks perspective.
Stay safe. Just some good rain and a decent Breeze up here in Brunswick County. Beaches are gonna be a bit messy though.

That was really good. Looks like we need to watch out for high winds later today. At least the soil isn't totally saturated already, but it seems almost certain we'll have a bunch of power outages.

I follow this guy on Facebook, he put out an alert about an hour ago saying that wind values will actually go up above initially predicted. I will say when it comes to winter storms, he is almost always correct in his predictions and analyses, and is pretty blunt in slamming local TV mets.

I also got a chuckle when he ended with " I need.... I need a chocolate chip muffin..." šŸ˜‚

Saw a guy on TT talking out the logistics of a evacuation route drinking game. Taking beer ā€œshotsā€ for broken down hooptys and liquor shots for dead evā€™s. Seemed well thought out
as he included a licensed limo company for the trip, last minute departure, routed to pass by charging stationā€™s, bed pans with screw on caps, etc. Fingers crossed he pulled it off and will post it.

should be the standard

If Iā€™m solo up at the cabin I leave the heat at 60. Iā€™m usually out doing something all day anyway, and 60 is good for sleep. If Iā€™m in the house I can make a fire if I get a little cold. Plenty of wood.

Same here. Cold, damp, breezy. 55 now. That's it for today. Wife already had the heat on. Her sister is visiting and has her battery operated heated vest on

Offbeat thought ā€¦ in all those who were evacuating wonder how many E-vehicles had problems finding a charging station to use? Then when they head back what will be the availability of stations after Ian moved thru? Just thinkinā€™ while watchinā€™ out the window ā€¦

Getting breezy here now and power constantly flickering, hope @BatteryOaksBilly is alright, have a coworker off Hickman Road in his neck of the woods and she said Mother Nature is bringing it now.

Got home from work around 7:20 and when I got out of car I heard cracking. Dam tree from neighbors missed most of.my building except right corner, took out my fence and missed little man swing set. I'll post pictures when rain and wind stop. Glad it wasn't direct hit on building and swing set. Was able to gets pictures today. Neighbor came over filed with his insurance and told me they are gonna fix all my stuff and remove the tree. I could not thank him enough.

@Car0linab0y , nice pic in the media today of a water spout down near you.....
Was watching a livestream weather guy on YouTube "Ryan hall y'all " and one of his contributors popped in with the live radar of it...

Hadn't seen the pic. Just looked it up; that's between Indian Beach and Bogue on the mainland. To get there it had to cross from the ocean over the banks.

About 20 miles from me.

So both my kidā€™s households are without power. One a half hour north, and one a half hour south. We got the baby from a half hour south.

I have a whole house generator and I havenā€™t lost power. They have. One household has dogs, and the other has cats. I told them that yea, yer invited, but all those critters gotta stay home.

I was born in Morehead, know that area we'll. I know exactly where that is. The photo was impressive.

A lot of trees down around here. My sister in law and my niece don't have power. One of the main roads into town is impassable.

My two sisters and one of their husbands are at a Hilton in Charleston, because the new generator my BIL bought two weeks ago wonā€™t run. Bless his heart. He is a good preacher and a good man, but the debil harasses them mercilessly.

Iā€™m in the Siler City area. Everything was going well until about 7:45 PM. Lights flickered twice and then down for the count. Wife has got to get up at 4:30 in morning for work so sheā€™s already a sleep. And Iā€™m fine with the battery backup stuff I have for now. If itā€™s still out in the morning Iā€™ll crank up the genie. My forever home will have an automatic startup and transfer switch. I just donā€™t have the drive anymore to go out in the dark, wind, rain, snow, or any combination of the four, if I donā€™t have too lol.

My wife, who was 9 months pregnant when Fran hit, and we had small boys with the ice storm of 2002, doesnā€™t grasp why I wanted a whole house generator.

Iā€™m like a depression era baby. I never want to live like that again

We lost it over on Pittsboro Goldston rd around 6pm. The wife was warming up some pumpkin stew we had frozen so I put it in a pot and took it out to the shop and finished heating it up on a carolina cooker I have out there.

We have plenty of battery powered lights and when they give out we have a few oil lamps. Filled the bathtub with water before the power went out so we could flush the toilet. We are good for the moment.

I'm like you, didn't want to fight wind and rain for the genny. Next house we already have plans for whole house one and a big tank.

Power went out at 3pm. Considered going to my parents house which has a whole house generator (my mother is still pissing and whining about burning propane). We have a dog, 3 cats, and weā€™re brooding 4 (was 5) chicks that require heat. We talked about going to my parents. The dog would have come, obviously, and we would have likely taken the bin of chicks. Poor cats. Power came back at ~5pm parents still on generator.
