Moore county, attack on power grid.

What ham? What burgers? What bacon? What coffee? On a grill powered by what? Do you have a years supply of ham, burgers, coffee, bacon or propane?
And if you do cook outside the smell will bring in hoards of people who would just like a bite or 2.
It would take a long time until you could cook outside unless you had a large group that looked out for each other and worked well together.

Ya’ll bring up good reasons to have a lot of pets.

I figure most folks have at least a weeks worth of food at home. They might not like it, but they’ll eat it after they finish the perishables. Then they’ll hunker down for a few days. But I don’t think people are going to starve, it’ll be dehydration and water bourn illnesses that get most. No power would mean no treated water, and for most of the population that’s all she wrote even if everyone remains civil.

Exactly….

Having a good supply of food on hand is important, but a couple days without water and your ass is toast.

I believe Selco mentioned that sanitation and hygene became major problems in the Balkans.

For those new to this, read One Second After by Forschen. Also, download the free LDS Preparedness Manual which covers most all topics in detail. I used to discuss each topic when I hosted a amateur radio check-in. Eventually, it's worth it to buy a hard copy. But, the free download allows you to pursue the topics.

Selco Begovic

pdf, download and read

So your people are ok either the power outage.
My grandfather was the last one that I know if that spent time with the relatives. It was during the summer as a kid and he hated it because his chore was to shovel “manure“ though he used a four letter word for it.

I would like to think we’d be better off than many, but surviving through the 1st year with raiding parties will be a challenge.

The 299 days series also has some good info in it. It's not about a massive loss of services all at once, but a rapidly accelerating collapse of govt, which brings in a collapse of everything else with it. written by the guy that does the prepping 2.0 podcast

We've got 1000 gal of propane to run a 13K generator on an ATS that powers the kitchen, well pump & all HVAC/mechanical/water heaters, along with a couple outlets throughout the house. That would get us through a fair bit, if we cut way, way back on our usage. Same tank fuels the stove & can fuel the furnace & with enough wood on hand, we can heat the house in the winter. In a true SHTF situation though, once the propane runs out, so does the power.

I plan to build a stone camp fire/cook fire situation at the Tiki bar on the pond & would love to find a way to add some means of manually pumping water without power. We've got a huge 12/12 pitch roof facing almost due south, which'd be ideal for solar, but $$$$$.

The largest take away from reading the SHTF book is that nothing will go the way you think it will. I've tried to prepare a lot, but if the S really HTF than we're all in for some big surprises.

As has been said many, many times, it will happen slowly, then suddenly. We're in the slowly part right now.

Another good read is from Argentinian author Fernando "Ferfal" Aguirre:
Amazon product ASIN B09HYSY7SL
See. And that guns vs books guy thinks we don't read. 😆

Depending on your situation, you might look at a water ram pump. And that roof might be good for rainwater collection.

Water Ram...

Been thinking about some rain water collection, too. Ram pump looks nifty, but we don't have a situation that would support it. Could use the pond for water in a pinch, but the pond's for raising fillets for the table.

Takin' time to get to it all & absolutely have to get the orchard started next. Not sure if we'll be able to get the garden in on time, as we're pushing hard to get the pond "perfect" by springtime, but I do intend to stock up on a variety of staple heirloom seeds. We're getting it together, slowly but surely. We're not "ready" but we're in a much better position than we were a year ago.

250 gallon totes work well. If you plan on drinking, try to take it from a metal roof. If it's for flushing and non consumption asphalt isn't an issue. I'd also filter it before consuming regardless of roof. Those totes grow some funky stuff when it warms up.

If you are not into camping filters look at Berkey's. If you go camping filter get a gravity filter.

So, I skipped the last 6(or 12 depending on how many posts you have set per page).

Few nuggets. No cyber aspect to this, as in there wasn't a cyber and physical attack.
Also, I don't know if people are tracking, a lot of the equipment built for these places is built custom.

So, even if they patch things temporarily, proper replacements will take months.

SC now - Duke again. No damage reported, sounds like a drive by not well planned.
Here come the copycats.

The most recent potential case of sabotage occurred in South Carolina.

According to multiple law enforcement sources, an individual opened fire near a Duke Energy facility at the Wateree Hydro Station in Ridgeway.

The individual used what appeared to be a long gun and then sped away. No one was injured and there has been no reported damage to the station at this time. There is also no indication the attacks are coordinated at the moment.

They won't let you publish death threats (or promote murder) on their platform.

You are suggesting lining people up against a wall and shooting them.

But they are the Nazis? 🧐

Not saying you're a Nazi, of course, just saying that what they are choosing to do on their service is far from Nazism.
Oh I didn't take it like that we are good. Anyway I can go without FB for 24 hrs no worries.

Reactions: Me.
Those that came before farmed and hunted. Even if they had access to the resources, who has the skills? Even with the skills, will you last until your garden grows?

Everyone should have.

One note from the power outage: Moore County is not allowing any food businesses to reopen unto they get an inspection. I think this is a great idea. Need to make sure restaurants are not serving spoiled goods. I have never seen a restaurant prepare for any emergency. I thought about building a couple food trailers to rent for emergencies and to allow time to change refrigeration equipment. The food trucks are open if you are in Southern Pines. I told my daughter to not eat out for at least a week.

My wife was 9 months pregnant when Hurricane Fran came through in’96. Power out for ten days. On day three or four we packed up and headed to Charlotte to stay at my folks. We kept stopping at fast food joints trying to get something to eat on the way out of town, but it wasn’t until one replied and said, “No, our power never went out.” that she would she let me order.

Those of us that went powerless for 10 days when Fran hit remember the Supermarkets opening and all produce and cold perishables and frozen foods were being carted on on lift trucks and spare dumpsters were lined up.

The comment about a false flag frame up has been on the front burner of my simple mind. The cases at Duke University and NASCAR weigh heavily into that assumption. Ain’t no Jethro Gibbs or Sherlock Holmes, but don’t rule out such. I guess we see who gets collared….
