I bought a new auto ordnance 1911 full size. Clean and ready to shoot. Jammed 2 times in 5 mag changes. I've had cheaper and more expensive 1911's never had that happen. A Springfield xdm 45 I was going to sell (didn't want it to begin with) first time I shot it was today. 200 rounds down the pipe no failures.

A 500$ 1911, 1000$ 1911, or a 5000$ 1911 should function fine. As I said ive had cheap and expensive. And for a car example. I don't care if you buy a mustang or a Porsche. If it's brand damn new it should go 5 tanks of gas without throwing a rod. And if it does you won't buy another sports car you will buy a big fat truck that just goes.

Sometimes new 1911s need a little time to break in. Mark your mags to see if it the same one that jams. Also try to use ball ammo and try a few different brands of ammo to see what it likes. Removed feed ramp advice was just trying to be helpful. We all are still learning.

I bought a brand new Colt a number of years ago and it jammed multiple times with every single magazine. A quick check revealed the extractor had no tension - zero, nada, zip, zilch, none. Somebody at the factory got careless and forgot to tension the extractor. While bothersome, it was an easily corrected issue.

Determine what is causing your pistol's problem and then complain appropriately.

Well don’t start polishing anything until you know why. We don’t even know what kind of failures they were yet.

Using the factory mag and only the 1 factory mag. If it needs work out of the box it's going back 🔙 n the box. It can sit in the safe for 30 years and when my son gets it he can sell it or keep it in the safe. If I modded it and this happened I would work at fixing.

Just about any 1911 can be finicky given the right circumstances including mags, ammo, etc…. I just thought your title was funny. If you previously had a love for 1911’s and an auto ordnance 1911 killed it, I think there might be other problems. I honestly don’t know how many 1911’s I have right. I bought another well known semi custom 1911 in the last year that is back at the maker now getting worked on because of issues out of the box. I’m not happy with it but it is what it is. I have 2 of their guns already but that doesn’t dissuade me from looking at others right now. My love is still strong for the platform. Did I mention I carry glocks daily for a reason?

If you buy a modern 1911 from any production line, you should just assume it was assembled with minimal fitting and never touched by a gunsmith. It may work, it may not. If it functions reliably with defensive ammo, it's luck. Money increases luck (e.g. Colt and Dan Wesson), but money spent with a gunsmith buys reliability.

Out of the box, assume the lower barrel lugs and barrel link are not fitted, the OEM magazine is crap, no one has spec'd the magazine release for proper height of engagement, the ejector is not fitted, and the extractor is neither fitted nor tensioned.

Function problems are almost never feed ramp/chamber geometry issues.

"My love of 1911's killed by auto ordnance" is somewhat akin to saying "My love of the automobile was killed by Yugo" because the cheap thing broke down on you.
I can't improve on that. 🤪

I mean, I owned a crappy Norinco that began jamming (FTF) new outta the box, on the second mag of hardball. I went S-A and Kimber after that - never had an issue again!

Don't be so hard on hi-point, they.... oh... yea those work right out of the box. My bad.

1. It's new.
2. It's a 1911.
3. It's Auto-Ordnance.
4. You've only tried one magazine.

No new gun is considered broken in short of 200rds. I prefer guns that are made to close tolerances and need a little time for the parts to "seat" together, resulting in a "perfect" fit. IMO

How long have you be shooting 1911's ??

should, and do are to very different things unfortunately.

Been shooting them for 25 years. One of my carry's is a sig p238. Flawless out of the box. Also carry a Ruger lcp 380 flawless out of the box, a Smith shield 9 flawless out of the box. Boat pistol is a no name something or another 50$ auction pistol flawless. As I said out the box failing is not acceptable for me. That's my opinion. I'm sorry if y'all don't like it. But my pistol my decision. And my son seems to like Glocks regardless of their hideous appearance so I'm just getting more and more pushed that direction. 😱

well, yeah.

It SHOULD have worked. But why does that kill the love for 1911's?

Ive seen a bone stock Glock 17 fail before. Would that have soured you on all striker fired poly pistols?

Would a DB9 failing make you hate glocks?

Sorry but in the budget 1911 market of today why in the world you buy an auto ordinance? I mean RIA, Tisas, and a host of others would’ve been a better choice at the sub $500 range.

Basically what you’re saying is I went to Applebee’s and ordered a New York strip and it was terrible poorly cooked bad piece of meat I’m never going to eat another steak again as a result. Makes sense to me.

In the end if it bothers you that much and you can’t figure out what’s wrong with it call them up get a call tag send it back in under warranty and hope they can fix it in a timely manner. Don’t throw the baby out with the bathwater.

You've had a Ford truck all your life does great all your life suddenly you get one it's it's a POS. Gee I think I might just start driving a Chevy. They seem more reliable now. Maybe down the road I'll get another Ford or I'll just buy an old one again. But some people are closed minded and keep buying the Ford or Chevy or dodge that keeps breaking down. It's just a brand, model, or caliber. As long as you keep buying owning and shooting that's all that should matter. But hey I could start saying Glocks are pretty.

Great analogy. By the way, the worst steak I ever had was a Strip at Applebee’s in Charleston SC over 10 years ago. They even left part of the plastic bag on it that it was packaged in. One of the best steaks I ever had was a Strip I cooked last summer. I’ve eaten at some pretty good restaurants and that strip steak stands out to me. My kids even ask occasionally when I’m cooking them again. All the more recent ones haven’t lived up to last summers but I’m still going to try again and again.

I've got an AO M1 carbine. The mag they provided was garbage. The gun itself needed about 300 rounds to break it in. Now it runs great. I just say get a Wilson magazine and shoot the thing until it runs.

uhhhhhhh..... that makes little sense.

Your comparing brands.

this is, quite literally, describing "I had a problem with a "Ford/Chevy/Dodge" truck, and now all I will buy is..... something other then a truck?"

That is not the same thing. The 1911 is made by 100 different people. Ford makes Ford trucks.

The reality is that modern 1911 manufacturers treat JMBs design as more of a suggestion then a blueprint. They have cut corners and altered the design so that they can machine it using modern techniques so they can sell it to you for under $500. As a consumer you should understand that they have cut corners that it is not the same 1911 that JMB designed.

Expecting a bottom of the barrel low price 1911 to function 100% out of the box is a lofty expectation. Now that’s not to say there are brand under $500 that don’t run out of the box. There definitely are unfortunately auto ordinance is not one of them. Again don’t lose your love of the platform because you got a bad example from a bad company

A big truck
I thought this post was about lofty expectations. I honestly get so tired of hearing all the nonsense and back and forth over this kind of drama and BS it irritates the piss outta me. I dont care what you think the looks are on any gun or anyone thinks about a glock, sig, 1911 or any other gun if its a carry gun it simply needs to work. If its not a carry gun and you bought it for looks...then put it in a glass case and stop whining. If it is for carry....dont, i repeat, do not expect to carry it or have it to defend you and your loved ones without thoroughly testing it. I dont care if ammo is expensive...id rather spend thousands on ammo and training and know my gun is going to function. If it's not a carry gun, then quite complaining, run through the break in period which all 1911s need and move on. If it is a carry gun then be a grown man and make up your own mind before complaining about a crappy gun...thats like complaining that your McDonald's doest taste like a USDA Prime cut Steak.

And no...a 100, 500, or 5000 dollar gun do not perform the same...and if you think so ive got bad news for ya.

I'm pissed off tonight and this just takes the cake.
