NC vs SC which is "more free"

Of course we both have the "no drinking" BS... Can't have a glass of wine or a beer and maintain the right to self defense... At least in NC you can go from concealed to open if you have a beverage and still be legal...

Two areas where NC has the advantage: in South Carolina, one needs explicit permission to conceal carry into a church or someone's home. Neither is required in NC.

One interesting quandary: for those without a concealed carry permit, driving across the border between the two states with a handgun is illegal. In SC, the handgun must be hidden, while in NC it must be readily visible. Thus, at the moment you cross the border, you will be illegal in one state or the other.

NC is the preferred yankee destination, oh wait SC is well on its way to be infected as well - I know, I was a damn yankee at one point.

You can just put your visible NC gun in the glove box when you cross into SC.

I was open carrying in Wal Mart last Saturday. :) I'll hafta get Goofy up here one day and show him the correct way to parade-like-you-mean-it at the Wal Mart.
I can't bring myself to go full white trash though. Wear the G23 in a Safariland ALS at 4:00, dress nicely. But @Catfish is right, most open carry at WM is the stupid drop leg molle rig with an equally questionable handgun inside.
I oc maybe 5-10% of the time, not much. My favorite about the oc thing is when I'm putting my LC9 in my pocket as I get out of the van. I do that all the time. If a cop sees you do that in SC he's gonna rag you at least.

Nawth Calina... Bo-ford
Sowf Calina... Bue-fert

I live close to the state line and some of my friends call their home state: SY '-Ga-lyna

Since I keep mine in the center console on the way to work from south carolina, just past Carowinds, I take it out and put it on the seat. On the way home I put it back in the center when I pass Cabelas. I do this every single day. It's dumb.

I won’t speak to laws but let me speak to two things. I was raised in SC and my family are natives. I was born in Thailand but was brought back to SC at 10 months old.

And I have lived in NC for about 20 years when you count my time at Jacksonville.

And I am both a study of people and of history. SC was settled primarily by Germans, some Cajuns with a smattering of English. My own family was descended from a group who refused to kneel to one crown, was caste out to an island which ended up under control of another king, to which we refused to kneel, and then sent mostly to penal colonies in Louisiana.

NC was primarily settled by English serfs.

From what I’ve seen over the years people from SC are more likey, as a general rule, to tell you what they think of anyone to their face and ignore legislators and police who overstep their bonds.

And people from NC are far more likely, as a general rule, to bitch about the legislators and the rich and their bosses in private and then publically state what great men the all are. And much more likey to break stupid laws only when no one is looking.

It's uncommon but I do see the occasional open carrier even here in Mecklenburg. Usually it's a Hi-point riding in an Uncle Mike's clipped to a pair of sweatpants, but hey it's still legit OC.
His name is Cletus. He's okay. Not the sharpest knife in the drawer, but he means well.

Least you could do is say “hey” when you see me... :p

Interesting observations. Since moving over the line into SC and having the Kings Mountain Battleground in my backyard, I've come to learn that this area has historically been rabble-rousers and non-conformist. My kind of people.:D

SC has an advantage with posted signs. Must be a specific sign 8x12” at chest height on every entrance. It’s clear from 20 yards away whether or not a business is posted.

NC you sometimes need to search around the door a little.

Although those opposed to concealed carry would probably say that makes SC less “free” putting such burdens on business owners for putting a large ugly sign on their front door.

Sounds more like Eastern NC to me, but I'll agree.

I bought a rifle at Academy in Rock Hill and the guy that did the paperwork was an armed security guard in Charlotte but lived in SC. He would stop at the border and switch over to NC or SC rules. With the hope some cop didn't get seriously technical with him some day. Ridiculous crap.

Do you search?? If it's not conspicuous, I didn't see it.

As well as it should be. They are the ones wanting to be an exception to the law.

Hmmm not in this area. Mostly Scots-Irish and a few Hugonauts who went AWOL in the 1770s. My surname is English and I'm not sure if I am the descendent of serfs on that side but my mother's side is strickly German and Polish immigrants.

So......yeah I will just piss everyone off equally in English and/or German.

Well if this was the only fact that I had to consider, I’d move tomorrow.

What about the whole "going in terror for the public" thing on open carry? I see open carry here in NC as a good thing for concealed carry in that if you print while concealed you won't be arrested for brandishing as happens in some states. I don't know how successful open carry in a suburban/urban area is, unlike say, Arizona where it is not uncommon at all.

and Travelers Rest.
Can someone please tell me about Travelers Rest?! I've heard it mentioned but have no idea why it seems to be so interesting.

Might have been interesting years ago, when heading to the mountains/asheville was more than a Sunday stroll. Travelers rest is just another small town full of commuters heading to greenville. I grew up in upper Pickens county and hunted above there a good bit.

Travelers rest is the home of the travelers. Kinda like our very own gypsies. They deal mostly in fake asphalt driveway scams.

Travelers are Irish ancestrally, but not of traditional Irish blood. They aren't gypsies. Roma are a different people entirely and they don't intermix... Just for clarification...

I think they finally got legit jobs and are working on I-85 now. [emoji2957]
