PayPal Warning

I don't leave money with PayPal. I use them as a convenient way to pay for things on websites when necessary.

Yeah, I hope they lose their ass on it. The penalty fee is supposedly only for "commercial accounts" but they've been yanking from anyone they can, it's virtue signaling and cash grab pure and simple. Hopefully the class action suit can pile on the charges, loss of revenue, impact to sales, lost investment opportunity with the seized cash, etc.

That is not going to happen. You agreed to the terms and conditions when you signed up. You agree to updated to that terms of service whenever they issue them. They expanded this beyond just business accounts a while ago.

It is not virtue signaling it is a business decision which in a free society snd economy they have the right to make. You have the right to not use their service. No one is forcing you to use PP and no one is forcing you to use it in a manner they strictly prohibit. You violate the terms of service at your own risk and if it goes sideways you have to take personal responsibility for your choice. IMHO

We changed banks, emptied Suntrust, now Truist. PP is attached to that so I kept a few dollars there for the convenience, such as supporting CFF.

Putting terms in pages and pages of fine print legalese when it is completely understood that nobody reads them is not really agreement. I believe there was even some sort of legal case about this over software EULA agreements and forcing people to agree to ridiculous terms after they bought the product was no bueno.

Similarly changing the terms and making it a unilateral ultimatum after they have your money is likewise not agreement.

Next thing you’ll see will be PP crying about their property rights.

It is not buried in the terms and conditions that you cannot use it to buy guns or ammo. It is also explicit that using no fee F&F to pay for items is not allowed. People did it and continue to do it because they think there is no consequences but they cry when their money gets locked up.

The solution is simple don’t use their service and if you do don’t use it knowingly in violation of their terms of service agreement. I personally stopped using them for anything firearms related and almost never use them in general because there are other ways to accomplish the same thing without the hassle.

I saw this posted somewhere else and thought I’d pass it along just in case anyone wants to look into it.

Then there are the times they lock your account because they think you violated their terms, you answer their request for info showing you didn’t violate their terms, they ignore your additional info, won’t answer your emails or calls, and they just keep your money….

I understand that does happen but the majority of what I have seen is people selling and buying stuff that is prohibited.

seems a lot of people looking for a PP conspiracy.........but carry on...

They can’t catch everyone every time but this is far from a conspiracy.

  1. relate to transactions involving (a) narcotics, steroids, certain controlled substances or other products that present a risk to consumer safety, (b) drug paraphernalia, (c) cigarettes, (d) items that encourage, promote, facilitate or instruct others to engage in illegal activity, (e) stolen goods including digital and virtual goods, (f) the promotion of hate, violence, racial or other forms of intolerance that is discriminatory or the financial exploitation of a crime, (g) items that are considered obscene, (h) items that infringe or violate any copyright, trademark, right of publicity or privacy or any other proprietary right under the laws of any jurisdiction, (i) certain sexually oriented materials or services, (j) ammunition, firearms, or certain firearm parts or accessories, or (k) certain weapons or knives regulated under applicable law.
This is from the Acceptable Use Policy, not the Terms and Conditions. There are zero references to firearms in the Terms and Conditions. So in reply to the guy who said that it's not buried in the Terms and Conditions Agreement, he's right. It's front and center in the Acceptable Use Policy that you agree to when you agree to the Terms and Conditions. That's not confusing at all. HAHA!

It appears there are no published boundaries. If they think it's not acceptable, it's not acceptable?

Looks like they're doubling down on their stupid. I wish they'd go out of business.

Effective March 21, 2022, we are:
  • Revising PayPal’s Seller Protection program to expand the list of ineligible items to include certain Non-Fungible Tokens (NFTs) with a transaction amount of more than $10,000 USD.
  • Revising the actions we may take if your eligibility for PayPal’s Seller Protection program is suspended. In such a case, we may treat amounts you retained under PayPal’s Seller Protection program in the past 30 calendar days as amounts owed to PayPal and debit your PayPal account accordingly.
  • Updating the Dispute Fee and Restricted Activities terms to include actions we may take and the dispute fees we may assess if the seller engages in a Restricted Activity.

... or you could mark them for "Remington house sale" "Sam Colt hospital bill" ... get creative. You can set up as many paypal accounts as you have bank accounts/credit cards. I dunno if they will let you set up one with a wal mart debit card, but the card I use is a debit card. Send their customer service department tons of questions, like "I really want to comply and am concerned that the telescope I am purchasing might be mounted on a gun... Is this within the bounds of Paypal rules?" " I want a Red Ryder BB gun. This is a firearm in England. Is it legit to use Paypal?" "I am buying 50 pounds of charcoal, and I have heard that people use this for making gunpowder. Can I use that for paypal?" Just be creative and send them all sorts of genuine concerned questions. You will have to choke the monster to stop it. If you go up against it bravely standing alone in a show of force, you will be crushed.

I won't spearhead this, but if we had a planned day to kick off the festivities, I would certainly participate.

What's their justification?
if a person, in their opinion, breaks the terms of service and uses Paypal for gun stuff (that's undefined) or other things they don't approve of they'll take all your money held in an account with them as a fine for having broken the agreement. They're not good about telling you what you allegedly did either.

Thanks. I figured that's what it was after I thought about it.

Justification? For damages of course. I sold something they didn't agree with, gladly took their percentage of fees for the sale and then banned me and stole my money. I know I'm never going to see it based on the screaming 20 min phone call I just had. It's just wrong.

There is a class action lawsuit pending, they are calling it Racketeering because they take all funds without explanation.
Edit: A world poker tour player got his $12K back after the lawsuit was filed, so not he can't be in the class, several others out six figures of cash.

Where was the item sold?
