I saw one exactly like the photo at Tanglewood in Clemmons back in the mid 70s and fell in love with those.
You are correct, prices today make them a wet dream.
 
Tanglewood? Was that the old British Car Days South event that they held there? If so, I used to go to that. Fantastic machines there.

This gunboat was a blast... factory set up with 350, 4-barrel carb, dual exhaust, positrac rear end, sway bars...

Jet black. My wife blew away a lot of rice burners off the line in it.

Changing the model every year really was amazing. It’s not like now, where a model “generation” goes for seven years or so.


Every year, a whole new look for every model. It must have been exciting in the fall to see what ”this year” was going to look like.
I remember dealerships having searchlights and big new model parties in the late '50s early '60s.
