Hmmm...
This year, O.F. Mossberg & Sons, Inc. turns 100 years old. To celebrate, the rifle and shotgun company is doing something a bit different—they’ve released a handgun.
Today, Mossberg announced the release of a 9mm concealed carry pistol dubbed the Mossberg MC1sc (subcompact).
Though the company has limited its production to long guns…and some short shotguns, for decades, it did begin as a handgun company producing the .22-caliber, four-shot “Brownie” pocket pistol.
You can read more about that and the early days of Mossberg here.
The MC1sc has been released in five variants, all chambered in 9mm: the standard MC1sc (MSRP: $421) and an optional cross-bolt safety version (MSRP: $421); two other versions with upgraded sights - either TRUGLO Tritium Pro Night Sights (MSRP: $526) or a Viridian E-Series red laser sight (MSRP: $514); and a Centennial Limited Edition with a tritium nitride barrel and guide rod, polished DLC slide, and 24kt gold accents engraved on the slide—which will be limited to a run of 1,000 guns with special serial numbers.
From Mossberg:
“The MC1sc reflects three years of development and new patent-pending ideas in combining the most highly-desired features in the subcompact market with Mossberg’s innovative approach to design. Important features in a subcompact handgun are size, weight, caliber and carryability; and the MC1sc delivers with its overall length of 6.45 inches; recoil-managing weight of 19 ounces (with empty magazine); and barrel length of 3.4 inches in the popular 9mm chambering. Other desired features include two single-stack magazines, a flush 6-round and 7-round extended; glass-reinforced polymer frame; and suggested retail price of $421 for the two standard models.”
The pistols all feature what Mossberg is calling Clear-Count single-stack magazines that are constructed of a transparent, lubricous polymer compound “that offers low friction and high wear resistance, while providing quick at-a-glance assessment of the number and type of rounds loaded” in the magazine.
