Triangle Shooting Academy update from Bill

She is actually a long time old Raleigh caterer. She and her son run the cafe. It's a separate entity from the range and gun shop.

Yes, she and I had a nice little talk that day. I learned a bit about her "resume". As I said, she couldn't have been nicer or friendlier. I truly enjoyed meeting her and eating her cooking.

What in the blueberry f***muffins did I walk into???

First of all, I know that I am not guilty of this, because I already know that every LGS I go into won't have a holster for my pistol. If I walk in and find out that they DO, chances are I have the pistol that I know I'll need to test fit already in it's case, cleared, with the slide locked back, and THEN I'll bring it into the store. Do I mind? Not at all, because I still have my CC pistol on my hip. I'm not disarmed. People need to quit being so uptight! Need to test fit a holster or mag? Great, pick a different carry gun that day, and bring the unloaded firearm into the store in a case, and up to the counter. You open the case and VOILA! There's no mag in it, and no round in the chamber, and this was confirmed without ever touching the firearm....

Who the heck tries out a holster anyway? How the heck can you expect to end up with a box full of holsters if you don't simply buy them sight unseen online, or as impulse buys on random gun shops along your vacation route. The classified sections would die if we all start doing that kind of dragged out research. Just buy the damn holster, bring it home and stick your gun in it. No need for drama at a retail outlet.

There's an idea: create a new sub-forum for "Holsters That Didn't Fit". It could even be a "Holster Swap Shop" for members. Maybe even T Shirts and status points for the most holsters listed for trade. :D

Carry like this fellow and forget a holster:

I agree. This thread has already been hijacked and beaten to death.

As for holsters I buy all mine from Wild Bill's. He's a local maker over in Garner and they always fit the gun. They will even custom make one for you. My USMC son was deployed overseas a couple of years ago and needed a rig. They made him one along with the ammo pouch and belt and shipped it to him in about 2 weeks. When I buy a new gun, I buy a new holster. Now all those guns and holsters are at the bottom of the lake along with my ammo. If the lake ever dries up...... :(

It's not the holsters people got riled up about the store puts a sign up banning open carrying, I get their point some people are unsafe. However the way they worded their signage sounded completely anti 2A plus banning you to even carry openly. The way to have handled this was to simply put a sign up "no unholstering of weapons inside" instead they go full stupid and ban you to even carry, it may not have been their intention they claim it wasn't but the signs were up for awhile apparently either they didn't read their own sign or it wasn't their intention after people started pushing back lol

well I'm wondering why Bill hasn't said anymore about what is being said in this thread you'd think he'd be interested in responding to some of whats said or it may be he's like what being felt and said rights really have no meaning
He's posted what he intended to say and moved on I reckon. I doubt he has time to watch this thread all day lol

Plus one for Wild Bill's They even modified a holster for my particular needs for free once.

Damn. I thought my problems with accidentally sealing up toads under my driveway were bad, then I read through this thread.:D

I'm just curious where all these local ranges are getting all these SEALs that the Navy seems to be hemorrhaging. Seems like every place you go to has a staff full of SEALs, Delta, Force Recon, SAS, GIGN, etc.

Teaching Basic Pistol Marksmanship, Basic Carbine, and how to make a bugout bag.

In my mind, that's a pretty small community in general, even after the increases seen since 2001. I just don't particularly see the local gun shop teaching new gun folks stuff being that kind of lure from the SF community.

I used to be a seal, but too much fried chicken had me promoted to walrus

As for all the SEALs, they surely must have alter-egos when they're not out doing real-world superhero exploits. What better cover than a mild-mannered shoeshine boy er, gun-shop counter clerk?

Until I can get training from either ODST with 10+ drops or a Space Shuttle Door Gunner, I ain't shopping there.

This whole trying the fit of a holster thing boggles me. If it's a custom holster I could see it, but ones that are stamped out by the hundreds for what is most likely the most popular 20-30% of guns available? I'm sure the ones they carry "in stock" are gonna fit. Just buy the dang holster and play with it when you get home. Seems simple enough.

You would think so. Hell, half the time I have to convince people that the display model glock 19 gen 4 in my hand will fit the same holsters that their glock 19,gen 4 sitting at home will.

At home I have a coffee can with tons of bullets/shells from (empty) guns. I sympathize fully with the risks associated with working behind a gun counter. While I don't agree with their first reaction, and like others i think the change was due to backlash, i can definitely understand their side of the issue. Cause quite frankly at least in my experience a good number of people act like it is my fault that their "empty" gun was pointed at my face. Like I magick'd the ammunition into it when they were not looking.

I don't shop TSA nor am I likely to in the future. But, whatever the reason I am glad they changed or "clarified" their stance to one that is more reasonable.

We were going to lease them the virtual shooting range from TDA and even set it up there. It had a problem with one of the cameras and the manufacturer wouldn't service it because there was a restaurant on premises and they had a contract with some company in Arizona that said they couldn't sell ranges to companies that operated restaurants at the range, so we took it out and sold it to someone in Michigan.

The restaurant is actually leasing the space (I think). TSA doesn't own it, or they didn't when I last went.

Yeah but Virtras lawyers didn't see it that way and they would not service it, period!

What is it about restaurants that spooks them?
Contracts! They apparently have a contract with a company that says they can't sell to another company that has a restaurant in it. They want to start a chain I think.

In the spirit of don't ask don't tell I'll keep my species to myself, but it's clear that there are a lot of asses in this thread.

Imagine if we were all "nice". Man, would it be boring up in here.

Diversity of views adds a little spice to life, but when dozens of folks pile on to just say the same damn negative thing it becomes childish, boring, and ultimately reflects poorly on the community. I'm fine with poking fun at someone to get them to modify their behavior, but to do that successfully requires a level of engagement that the mob mentality here simply didn't allow. A few folks tried, and they might have convinced TSA to adopt less restrictive rules, Lord knows that there are great arguments, and maybe even start a conversation about supporting constitutional carry, but everything was squashed by the repetitive bashing, and to what end?

I know that it's the Internet, so accomplishing something is an unrealistic objective, but wouldn't it be nice if some of the regulars here would set an example for the newer members? Maybe set the bar as high as at least thinking about what you're trying to accomplish before just popping off.

I feel like I should end this with a fart joke, but I just haven't got one handy.

So what you are saying is when we voice our opinion on whatever it may be, if you ,yourself, think it to be negative then we are childish, boring, and a poorly opinoinated community. Furthermore there has been no rebuttal that i have seen from TSA on this based on what has been said in this thread . I am not trying to start anything or put words in your mouth, just trying to get clarification of what you mean.
