Uvalde, TX is about the last place that I would expect a school shooting to occur. It sounds as if the shooting occurred off-campus and the shooter then ran into the school.

The Texas Department of Public Safety and Uvalde Mayor Don McLaughlin told Fox News that one person has been shot and the shooter – who ran to the school – became barricaded inside it.
 
They're still doing lockdowns at schools? Still? My kids don't go to school, but their first move if guns start going off would be GTFO. Fire extinguisher through window, whatever it takes. The school can suck it. Not trying to be a dick about the school shooting, I'm just pissed off reading as a casual fact that the school locked down.

It was supposedly a murder suspect being chased by PD that decided randomly to go to the school and shoot it up?

Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas has been briefed on the situation and the agency "is actively coordinating with federal, state, and local partners," a spokesperson said. Customs and Border Protection officials in the area also responded to the scene.
 
Unbelievable and so tragic. Another wacko was on the street. Wonder why he shot up a school? If you have one way in and one way out with guards, people will think its not such a good idea to go into a school and shoot. Why didn't this guy go to a Police Station or Boarder Patrol office?
Wonder how many times people knew that this kid needed help?
 
A lot of this doesnt add up.
He was being pursued by police for the suspected murder of his grandmother.
Why didnt the school go on lockdown the moment the pursuit started?
He then easily gained access to the school and began firing.
Does the school not have automatically locked doors? I know at my childs school I have to be granted permission from office personel who "buzz" me in through 2 sets of doors.
All of this sounds suspecious to me. I dont want to say it but feels like he was funneled there.

Not sure what to say about this.

Freedom has it’s pitfalls but it’s still better than the alternatives.

I can’t imagine the horror of knowing your kid is in public school. Heck my grandkids went to public school this year after being home schooled from the start.

I’d meet the bear face to face with a bowie knife to keep them safe.

I emailed Tillis, Burr, the White House when Trump was president, about what I would do to secure a school. I didn't include financials and a proposed budget to implement the training. Just a plan on how to secure the school and limit entry and exit areas and a separate plan where they load and unload buses. I separately emailed them about other events as well. I didn't expect anyone to read what I wrote, but I sent it out there just in case it could have possibly made a difference or maybe just be one of many other people urging them to do something other than look for some magic law to fix anything. And my plan is probably not far off from any competent person in the security business. I put a lot of emphasis on not putting a lardass deputy (Parkland) that is about to retire as a fingerdrill for security, when in reality it is just some check in the box failure waiting to happen. You want the people doing the defending when it comes time to defend to be in the right physical shape to pursue and kill the attackers. Not that we'll even ever get that far in the planning, cause in my opinion, two weeks from now, all the schools that are worried about this happening to them today and tomorrow, will slink back into their complacent state and go about business as usual.

I talked about hiring teachers that are physically fit and mentally tough and that are willing to fight if something happens. Just maybe we need to be putting our kids around people who are literally dedicated to saving their lives as well as teaching them. That will disqualify 90% of the teachers in this country I'm sure, but how is the current plan working so far? Anyway, I urged them to prepare while they have the time to prepare... similar to during peacetime, prepare for war. Anyway... the irony is we'll be blamed... like clockwork.

WSJ says a handgun, so best we can hope for is an assault pistol / high capacity clip-a-zine comment, universal background checks and maybe a waiting period.
