Wake Forest PD stop

As for the 'where are you carrying?' question - last time I was stopped (about 5 or 6 years ago), they asked where it was when I said I had my gun in the car.
I didnt find it odd or anything, they just want to know where it is. No big deal.
Too many get way too bent out of shape over LEO

I just put a dash cam in my car that has both forward and rearward facing cameras. If they get that close, I'll have proof. I don't like fishing expeditions, so there is nothing on my tag other than the 2 screws that hold it on, no tint on the windows and I signal for lane changes and turns.

My brother in law was being tailgated in his equinox by a local NJ undercover office, no secret
as they all drive the same cars and you can see the aux lights and laptop in the daytime from your rear mirror.
He slows down and waves him on, cop lights him up, my BIL is very polite and has an easy attitude but looks like a gangster, huge shoulders, 260lbs 5'7", he used to box in his younger days, looks like a rottweiler.
Anyway cop gives him hard time, runs his paperwork, all 100% clean and insured, no problems, he told cop he don't appreciate people tailgating him that is why he waved him on.
Clearly trying to intimidate the driver to either evade or pull into a shopping center so he can to a traffic stop.
BIL was on way home from the chiropractor. Officer in plain clothes told him is is free to go. 15 min wasted of time.

People in this area find out that it is Bad JuJu to hang stuff from your near view mirror too. Man, they just want a reason for you to have to roll that window down. I have ridden thousands of miles with SCHP and we stopped every car we met that had "their vision obstructed" by hanging crap. "Gone fishin".

Perhaps the officer wanted to chat with your wife?

So by comparison since 2014 the most deaths in a single year in the Afganastan war is 55, with only 38 killed in action. So...I'm not saying that there is a "War" on police because if there truly was a war on police the numbers would be in the 1000's killed in America. That said its still not profession you don't have to think about the next shooter.

How many troops in Afghanistan? less than 20K, still a far higher death rate than cops. I do not see a problem with 1 cop a week dead in the line of duty. The police are not an offensive force.

As far as his hand on his gun. He may know the owner of the car has a CHP when he runs the plates. But whose to say the owner of the car is driving it.

And it's perfectly legal to be a CHP. Why the implied threat with the hand on the gun?

It's really good to know there's such little crime in the city that we've got time to worry about license plate frames. Next thing you know, there'll be a massive response to the outbreak of J-walking during daylight hours.

I would like to suggest that anyone with an NC CHP or SC CWP should have the wallet easily available while in the vehicle. If stopped if you can before the LEO even gets out of his vehicle have your window down with your left hand out the window w/ you DL & your CHP(CWP) and have your right hand on the steering wheel at 12 o’clock. It’s an easier and quick way to notify of your CHP(CWP) and then let the LEO lead from there. Honestly you’re not going to talk your way out of a ticket 99% of the time but you sure can talk yourself into one real quick ... just because they are a dick doesn’t mean you being one is in your best interest.

Your approach above is what I typically do. About 1/2 the time the LEO will ask where I'm carrying. The last time that I had an interaction and informed the cop asked me what I was carrying. After responding "PPQ", the cop replied "Cool!" LOL

Probably typed the info on their MDT with the big laptop lid obstructing 20 degrees of vision out the passenger side.

When I do get pulled over I'm as polite as can be. I always have my wallet in my hand while resting in the steering wheel. If it's at night I cut all my interior lights on so he can see inside the car as he walks up. My Brother is a Lt of a local force and my nephew has just went to work with Holly Springs. I deal with a lot of Leo's on a personal basis. 99% of them are great guys. I do know a couple that take the shit too serious.. On a side note I've never meet a HP that want cools as shit. Most courteous also.
Except for NCpatrolAR for those here who remember him. He had to be young.

Yep, by having my CHP on top of my DL I don’t say “gun” in any way until the LEO has seen my CHP and at least knows I am not a huge threat when it does get said.

I’ve been “fished” before the last was for one license plate light being out but it was after 1am and I driving a 1970 C-10 that was in primer. The NCSHP Trooper was respectful as was I and the whole stop took a couple minutes ... he didn’t even go back to his cruiser and run my DL (he likely had run it since I was tag owner anyway). He just advised a plate light was out and honestly disregarded the CHP completely because he was more interested in the truck.

Attitude will get you attitude ... respect usually gets you respect back ... politeness don’t hurt and cost you nothing.

That's horrible man. You say it yourself they are not offensive, they are reactive. Yet it's still ok when they die. Yet people hate the fact they want to go home at the end of the day. Just as a reference I've heard just as many people here say the same things cops say about going home and being tried by 12 than carried by 6.

The job of the police are the serve and protect the general public, to do that properly cops need to die in the line of duty.

I didn't say it was ok, it's a fact of life. I actually think most cops do not do their job properly.

They are not pigs to slaughter or dispensable pawns on a board. Hell they are not even soldiers trying to take over an invading force. Yet people with your mentality think they should die.

To protect the public at large, yes cops need to die. The same as I expect a fireman, to fight a fire, some are going to die. I would much rather nobody dies, but that is unrealistic, It's the nature of the job.

Here in High (Cost) Point, most of the city is going down the drain with crime. The cops sit in the nicer, read more affluent, sections of town and fuzz traffic. It pisses me off. Of course they could fuzz traffic in the poor zones but they probably can’t pay the ticket.

Edit to add: if you think about it, but be of the key reasons the country’s founding fathers went to war was because there were armed agents of the Government going around for the purpose of enforcing the laws of the State. I’m sure many of those agents were good people, some probably even sympathetic to the colonists.

Most cops despise traffic duty and would much rather be where the "action" is.

I believe it. The problem on many levels is the politicians and other functionaries above the beat cop. It’s the institution much more than the individual.

Meh.

"Law Enforcement Officer" says it all. Their primary purpose is ENFORCEMENT of the laws. Therefore, they LOOK for infractions and they go about it using methodologies intended to bring them to light. Call it "fishing" if you will.

Regardless of why an officer pulls anybody over, they are ALWAYS looking for infractions. It's their job. If you are pulled over because you really were doing 15 mph over the speed limit, he's STILL looking for other infractions.

A few years ago I was at a stoplight, right outside the shipyard, waiting for it to turn green so I could continue to work. Police car right behind me the entire time. As soon as the light turned green and I pulled through the intersection, the blue lights came on.

What was I pulled over for? Brake light was out. The entire encounter was professionally friendly, but you can bet that he was looking for anything else.

Afterwards, I pulled into the parking lot, put the car in park and wedged something onto the brake pedal and checked...nope, both brake lights working fine.

It wasn't until later that day that it occurred to me to check the upper brake light in my back window. Yep, not working.

I suspect it's probably related to why my trunk light doesn't work, likely due to a damaged wiring harness...but I haven't pulled the wheel off on that side to check and it still doesn't work.

Even if everything was working absolutely perfectly on my car, a police officer can STILL find SOMETHING he can use to pull me over, what with all the laws and whatnot out there. Maybe I swerved to avoid something in the road...might be erratic or reckless driving he gets me for. Whatever.

In general, I find them mildly irritating, but don't give them much thought.

Trying to wrap my head around why they need to die? I understand that inevitably some will die in the course of their duty but why have you decreed that they "need" to?

Now the one thing I scream (and I actually did once) to my LEO friends and acquaintances is ... STOP THE IDIOTS TEXTING ON THEIR F’ING PHONES ... the response I get back is drivers fight that one saying they weren’t texting just using their phone and it’s hard to prove so it’s thrown.

Not that I support texting and driving because I don't.

Please explain to me how someone texting and driving is any different then LEOs typing on a laptop mounted in their car while driving. I know several LEOs that won't give texting tickets because it makes them feel like hypocrites.

Only 52 cops killed by firearms in 2018, out 650,000+ full time cops, they are more likely to die from just about anything else while on duty.

yep. I bet their chances of dying in a wreck is way higher now that they're a protected class allowed to have a computer at their fingertips while driving.

Kinda like those seatbelts are optional on a schoolbus. Stuff that will never make sense under a government no longer for the people by the people.

First of all you didn't start the conversation off correctly.
As soon as the Leo walks up to your car you need to ask" why are you hassling me pig"
Tell him not to make and sudden moves because your quicker and want him to go home safe.
Tell him you don't have time for him and just pull off. Tell him not to come after you because you will smoke his non driving ass.
Always works for me.

Yes. And please turn around your daskcam or get one picture in picture driver and road ahead. I wanna watch that on Live PD one night :D

Evidently because you still drive around without it being fixed.

:p

Heh...I wouldn't give it much thought either way!

But those lights not working DO bother me. I once had an electrical connector torn apart up in the wheel well for the back, passenger side. I put it back together again and everything seemed to work at the time...but then, I wasn't specifically looking for those lights, either. I had that wheel off last week when I did the brakes on the rear end...but didn't think about it at the time.

Next oil change I do at the hobby shop, where the car will be up on a lift, I'll take the wheel off and check it out properly.

So you really only dislike my use of the word "need"?

Ether way, some cops are going to die doing their job....but then again, many courts have ruled cops have no to duty to protect, just like the parkland police force.

Yes, your disgusting use of the word "need" indicates your desire for cops to die for you to feel appeased.

Construction workers die every year building bridges and skyscrapers but you wouldn't say they needed to die to get the job done.
