Watches

There’s nothing wrong with Timex, I’ll recommend them for just a plain old watch. But, I can’t any parts at all for them anymore. Not even a crystal or stem land crown. We used to be able to all the parts. I even have some nos mechanical movements.

Last week...because of @Jeppo ....I got 3 older Timex watches. These things are really cool. I set all 3 at the same time last week and they are to the second, still together. I have them sitting in front of me as I type, they are really what watches are about. Inexpensive, accurate and tough as a knot.
Because of me, you buy $15 watches.
Because of you, I buy $1500 guns.

Where’s the justice? :(

I'm putting all my "other" watches in the safe and wearing the Omega I got from you and the 3 Timexs I just got. I need to get a leather band for the Omega and I'm ready to go!

I’m pretty sure I have a spare band. Let me check after breakfast.

I like the idea of a NC watch company. I am not crazy about the styles of most of them.
Yeah, they don’t do much for me but I can imagine the attraction for others. If I’m right about the location, it’s a very tiny space. Maybe they assemble elsewhere. Next time I drive by, I’ll try to have a look.

They’re in unit 104, on the right.

With my small collection, I think I am going to focus on the Citizen brand. All Citizen watches are priced well, I like the look of them and I think it would be cool to have a single brand focus. What do you guys think of this idea?
Citizen makes high quality, mostly quartz watches. Their Eco-Drive (light powered) quartz line is the most popular. The Eco-Drive concept has many technical innovations and improvements over solar powered watches. The light-capturing cells are hidden behind the dial enhancing the appearance of the watches. Miyota is also part of the Citizen watch group and they make very solid "workhorse" Japanese automatic movements used by many watch makers in there lower to mid level offerings. I think collecting Citizen watches is a great way to spend money!

I have a Citizen prodiver my old man left me. It’s an outstanding watch. I like them a lot and think it’s hard to beat them for the money. Or even for more money. I have 3 Omegas, but they require maintenance and frankly the Citizen eco drive does everything they do easily and requires nothing. Got a couple NATO bands for it.

I’m a Casio guy, because they crush everything in price/performance, and I can treat them like a Glock.
But, my Citizen is what I strapped on tonight to take the ole lady to dinner. It’s a nice dang watch. I’m going to pick up another one or two to beat up. Citizen is more like my nice CZs, to reuse the gun analogy. Not corksniffer watches, but nice enough for any occasion for this simple dude.

Ah Timex.

They should make doorbells. 😂

Dug a couple more out.

The Reactor has a funny story. I used to wear a rubber G-shock daily for work, I went and got dinner with a buddy at Taco Bell and this older guy walked up to me and asked if I needed a watch? I figured he was trying to sell it so I kinda showed him the one on my wrist and was like “nah, I’m good”. He replied, “oh, you are into decent watches, this one is nice but the date isn’t adjusting right, I bought a new one so you can have this one” I said ok, thanked him and tossed it in my pocket. After we ate, I pulled it back out of my pocket and realized what it was, by far not the most expensive thing but not cheap. I sent it in earlier this year for a new crystal, battery and some repair.

Navitimer or Speedmaster ?

It may be down to these two.

New (maybe used) Speedmaster Pro with hesalite crystal

Or
Breitling Navitimer 806-36 gold plated with a one year warranty from a reputable dealer, watch was serviced and relumed in January 2020.

Navitimer hands down.

@matttahoe53 the movement in breitling is extremely solid and rarely requires major work. I also wouldn’t worry about buying a vintage watch. I own several without any issues. Honestly, if it’s from a reputable dealer then I wouldn’t worry about it. The biggest issue with vintage watches is they lose their ability to be submerged in water.

the speedmasters are fantastic and I’ve owned a few myself. The breitling has much more wrist presence.

My vote is also for the speedmaster. Navitimer looks nice but is super busy and I’m also not a fan of gold watches.

I really think my next watch will be one of these two. I’ve considered a lot but a chronograph is missing from my collection and I’ve narrowed down to these two.

My biggest complaint on chronographs are date windows, not a fan. Got the wife go ahead and may be calling the dealer tomorrow. So I really appreciate the opinions.

As stated before and thank you to amnesia my concern is spending to much on a crappy vintage piece and then not being able to wear/use the watch.

I can avoid water but I will wear this watch daily if I want.
