Steeldive 1936 California Automatic

That’s an interesting dial, very different.

Basically a homage to the vintage Panerai Radiomir which was the first true dive watch made for the Italian navy frogmen in 1936. The dial is called a "California" dial.

Just put a FS/FT thread up for my Reactor watch if anyone need a reasonably priced daily watch.

This is the one that started my watch habit/obsession. Bought new by my dad while in the USMC deployed on a navy ship for a whopping $230 (still have the original receipt, bracelet and box) and handed down to his favorite (only) son a couple years ago. That watch saw a lot of the world while he had it.
I tend to gravitate towards tool watches and try not to have two of the same brand.

Looking for another waterproof watch with a metal band (I have a big wrist). I have a GMT1 that I do not where often because I somehow forget to close the stem. That is why my Momentum is going back into the shop for the 2nd time in 14 months. Funny thing, I never open the stem except to change the date. It took Momentum 3 months to get my last one back. That watch is good to 200 meters, but I want one that I can go swimming with. Not looking to spend a bunch of money and all I want on the dial of the watch is something easy to read with my old eyes.
Open for suggestions.

I went online to see about the Seiko watches, and it said that Macy's would take links out of them free of charge. So, after the grandkids left today, Barbara and I headed to Macy's to look at the Seiko watches. They had one that I liked, and it was an automatic but not the face that I was looking for. The Seiko's only has a 2-year warranty. Next to them were the Citizen watches that are solar powered. Never owned a Citizen so asked to see a couple of the plan face watches. Ended up with this one and started thinking that Barbara's has a couple of watches that are not waterproof and talked her into one too. They come with a 5-year warranty and if you register it, they will add another year to it. Hope that was not a mistake.

KnotRight......take a look at a Glycine Combat Sub. ETA 2824-2 movement, sapphire crystal, 42mm case, and wears great on the wrist. Several dial and bezel combinations. You will not be disappointed.

Sweet! I picked up this one recently. I didn't care for the cyclops over the day/date window so am having the crystal replaced by a plain one.

Which model is that? A king turtle perhaps?

I've heard of people removing the cyclops with a soldering iron (to weaken the adhesive) and a razor.

Nice piece.

Yes, it's a SBDY079 which I found on Watchuseek a few weeks ago. I came very close to buying one like yours but this one popped up at a good price.

I checked into removing the cyclops but didn't want to take a chance on doing it myself. After talking with Duarte at NEWW, he recommended not using heat on crystals with anti-reflective coating as it can damage or discolor the coating. He will replace crystals for $35 and pressure test after, so I bought a sapphire crystal for it from Crystal Times and sent it off to him. It should hopefully be here Tuesday. Here's one of the pics he sent after it was done.

The deal with my wife is I can buy a new nice watch any time I get a new job or promotion. I recently turned down a job opportunity which I wanted but we couldn’t come to terms. Wife said that she was proud that I at least got an offer and that I could get a watch if I wanted. I told her it didn’t count since I didn’t accept, but I’m looking just in case I see something…

Funny story, a friend of mine passed away and I found a Rolex while cleaning out. While he could afford one he was not the type to buy one nor would he every wear something like that. He would often loan money and take little things as collateral so I guess that’s how he came across it or maybe it’s fake. But he wasn’t the type to buy a fake watch either. I honestly don’t know anything about it. I know it does the self winding thing and I have been told it has the right action. I was also told it looked real but the crystal was replaced. I don’t really care though.

They're really nice tool watches. Just ignore the retail price. They are MUCH less from many reputable dealers.

That style Seamaster is one of the most comfortable watches I’ve owned. Slim for what it is and contoured to the wrist. They’re great watches.
