We warned you bumpstocks were the beginning

Trump could end this with one letter or one phone call.

I believe he could as well.

I also believe Trump already wrote a Letter addressing this / these issues((???)) and the ATF suspended the action against "Q Inc" and started this new round of commotion.

With you being in the business I'm sure you are aware of some of these , finer details.

One channel says the sky is falling another says not quite yet.
Not gonna lie I've lost sleep over this wondering
Am I now a felon, or gonna be a felon due to a new rules
How much is it gonna cost me if i have to register every thing I own that falls into this category.

“Have to” is subjective.

In NY, CT, MA, CO and CA, citizens in those states were told they “had to” register specific items.

In most of those places, the compliance rate has been in the single digits.

Their kicking the can down the road 60 days isn't ending anything. I'm not aware that Trump wrote a letter, picked up the phone, or has done anything at all on this. At least one Republican congressman has. Regardless, Trump could have ended it, at least until January 20, 2021, already. He could have sent whomever is behind it packing. Maybe it isn't on his radar with the election coming up, but it is 100% within his Executive Branch purview to nix this if he so desires. Or drive it, as the case may be. Or do nothing.

This is true...
BUT
The owners have stopped using them, so the registration has effectively kept those guns out of the public (view, use, etc.). Non-use and hiding them is almost as bad (I say just) as restricting ownership.

For the most part I agree with you.

Yes, 1 Rep Congress Critter wrote a letter as well.

Out in the rural areas and up in the mountains, probably “business as usual” for many.

Kinda wondering at this point if I need to take down the couple videos I have of me shooting an AR Pistol at a rifle match.

......i never have and probably never will get the idea of why certain items require a tax stamp......An AR pistol or SBR isnt some concealed weapon of mass destruction.

Even a short barrel shotgun.........a great home defense tool, but you are limited to a 2 or 3 round capacity weapon when you do that. Not some weapon of mass destruction.

I have two...and they both hold about twice that amount.

And if I put a stock on the .410, to make it an SBS instead of just a firearm, it holds 16. :D

That is actually an easy question to answer. Originally, one of the goals of the NFA was to make all handguns NFA items. The definition of short-barreled rifles and short-barreled shotguns were political compromises when the original goal didn't fly with enough people to pass.

Reading the hearings on the NFA before it passed is very enlightening. For instance, the Roosevelt administration admitted that banning of NFA items would be unconstitutional, so they decided to tax them to regulate them.

With the mention of Short Barreled Shotguns ... wanna make the bets on how long it takes the ATF to start after the “not a shotgun” just over 26” overall length 14” barreled firearms like the Mossberg Shockwave,Remington Tac-14, etc? I’ve never really been comfortable enough with the idea the ATF would leave ‘em alone forever to buy one myself. I figured a couple robberies where the clerk gets shot with that “sawed off” shotgun that atleast other states would join CA, MA, MD and NJ making them illegal under state gun laws OR the ATF would do a re-interpretation of the SBS vs firearm thing and make ‘em an AOW like the Serbu Super Shorty or SBS depending on if it’s a Birds Head grip or braced.

I have a $5 AOW stamp for my “Shockwave”. Bought it before that’s what they were called, and the OAL measurement was taken without any grip on it. :D

First off, I think the NFA should be abolished.

That being said, anyone banking on the pistol loophole lasting a lifetime has their head in the sand. ESPECIALLY with products like the split fix/devoid plug being rubbed in the ATF’s face and every other FUDD writing in for a correction letter.

As someone else said, all it took was a pen stroke to become legal. Then it wasn’t. Then it was again. How does this most recent news shock anyone?

For those here arguing a tax stamp will put them on a "registry"... how did you purchase that pistol lower? If it was on a credit card you're already on a registry. Your post history on this site... any ammo sales... CCW permits... come on guys, wake up. I seriously doubt anyone making this argument is living 100% "off the grid" with 80% lowers bought with cash and shipped offsite.

I agree. I keep wanting to buy Glock braces, but then I remind myself that it's a lot of money to have in possible legal limbo.

Not being able to do cash sales was the main thing stopping me from buying a P80 Glock. They have a place in Charlotte but you can’t just walk in there and buy.

If I had a shop, I’d offer a service to cash customers...

They pay me cash for what they want (ammo, parts, etc...anything they could order online and have shipped to them). I order it through the business and when it comes in, they pick it up.

No online transaction for them...no card...no tracking.

Me too. Does it rub you the wrong way that you can hide it under a long sweater according to the feds, but making it LONGER by putting a stock on it is a felony?

Okay ... I am slow on the AOW vs SBS thing ... it’s a $5 AOW no stock but it’s a $200 SBS with a stock ... if you put a brace on it what are they going to call it?

Everything in the NFA is $200, with one exception. Transferring an existing AOW is only $5...making one is still $200.

Pistol with a VFG is an AOW. Adding the brace shouldn’t do anything, but that’s TBD.

And go ahead and tell me what this is:

other firearm. maybe. looks like the ati omni .410, but that shouldn't make a difference because it's not designed to be fired from the shoulder, so it's not a shotgun. not a short barreled rifle because the .410 barrel is smooth. not a pistol because... reasons (still not clear on why pistol

or maybe it counts as a smooth bore shot pistol and needs to be registered under the NFA because its' a pistol lower that has been designed or redesigned to fire shot shells.

i give up. what is it?

Firearm. That’s it.

Not a rifle (or SBR), not a shotgun (or SBS), not a pistol, and not an AOW. Just a firearm.

They ALL should be just firearms ... but the way things are swinging now with ATF infringement it could be a multi-stamper and Beto could be knocking ...

Disinfringe gun owners rights defund the ATF!

Interesting. However the charge was dropped, not ruled on. If the charge had proceeded and bump stocks ruled “not a machine gun” this would have carried much more weight. As it is there no legal precedent for undoing the ban.
All that has to happen is the retired ATF agent who was ready to testify disappears, dies or is otherwise convinced he was mistaken and then they will proceed with the next trial.

Can we stickie/save this guys info as well as his lawyers info? Might come in handy in case a member takes up scuba diving.

Not interesting at all. In fact, it's predictable.
I had the same thing happen to me in Michigan when I was found with a gun on a university campus, in violation of no law or written university policy. 10 months, 4 or so court appearances until the judge finally pinned the state&university prosecutors down to a do-or-die date. When he said "I understand you want to drop the charges" those a$$4*|3s said "we don't want to, but we can't find anything to charge him with".
I had some guns before that day, and some slightly conservative leanings... but that was probably the single incident that made me who I am.
Government is not here to help.
