What are you drinking?

@miss Miss Lily, come on down, I have a couple bottles waiting to be drunk.

With what is going on I am ready to drink anything. Got tried of drinking by myself. First time had friends over in weeks. For the last 4 weeks it has only been ME drinking. No fun.

I’ve been wanting to try this because it is Connor McGregor’s brand. He donates $5 for every case sold to charities that benefit first responders.

I’ve got one here at the crib, but went with 4 Roses tonight. Still a good choice, though.

Love it!

You tried it yet?
That's a great bottle...often overlooked but priced right and tasty!

I’ll have to give that a try, thanks guys!

I had 2 drinks of it last night. I've gotta say, I'm impressed. The Evan Williams BiB was good, but the more I drank of it, the less I liked it. That's not the case with OGD. We might need to stock up a few bottles, before they figure out what they've got and the price goes up. Lol

I like it. It's a lot more mellow than what I expected. Very easy to sip for 100 proof. It reminds me of, Maker's?
And after sipping on it awhile, I figured out what it tastes like. It's not Maker's. It tastes A LOT like Basil Hayden's.

Makes sense. I'm not a big rye fan, but, OGD Bonded is a higher rye mashbill. Very similar to Basil Hayden in that regard. Good call.

Because it practically is BH....before they water it down to 80 proof to make BH. They even use the same bottle. You see that old man pictured on the bottle....that sir is Mr. Basil Hayden.

Have you tried Old Forester Statesman?

Got one on the shelf, but no, haven't tried it yet.

The only two Old Forester offerings I have tried so far are the 1910 and 1920.

So far the only way I like a true rye is in an Old Fashioned.

I chased the Midwinter Night's Dram until I had 2 bottles. @BurnedOutGeek made me open one around Christmas. I hate it. LOL!

I've tried the award winning Knob Creek Cask Strength Rye. Same thing. As well as their regular rye.

I'm not a huge Basil Hayden guy, but I do drink it on occasion.

As much as I try to like Pendleton's, it's not for me either.

I definitely tend to lean more towards the wheat vs. the rye.

OGD Bonded and some of the Wild Turkey offerings are the closest I've gotten so far to enjoying "much" rye on a somewhat "regular" basis.

Is the Statesman rye heavy?

Nope, it's a sweeter bourbon so definitely worth cracking the bottle. Figured you may like it if you're not a fan of Rye.

I liked the 1910 and 1920 both.

That's good to hear about the Statesman.

My dislike of rye is kinda hard to articulate.

When it goes down it feels like what I imagine acid reflux feels like.

I can and do enjoy "hot" bourbons.

I learned on Knob Creek. I can drink Satgg Jr. at 133 proof or higher and enjoy it all day long.

But something about rye just bothers me.

Dont overlook OF 1897 either. That entire whiskey row collection is great but the 1897 is often overlooked.

Cleaning out today in my shop shop and around the yard. Didn't want to get the saw out for one longer piece of red oak that fell out. So now my chore is to sit by the fire and make sure when it burns in half that the two pieces that fall out don't hurt anything and I put them back in the fire-bowl. It's hard work but somebody has to do it. The Belle Meade helps pass the time.

Been a long time but had to clean the boat today and ended up bring it home. Too early for the brown bottle so working on finishing the Miller Lite that has been in the refrigerate for 6 months. Figured that I should also fill it up, only 52 gallons. Well there goes next weeks purchases.
