House Majority Whip Steve Scalise shot in VA

"I'm going to go shoot people because I'm mad that people are more successful than my pitiful life"

His primary passion was "income inequality". What an ignorant fool. I'm glad he's dead.

Prayers for those wounded.

Stand by.....

You reap what you sow:

Senator Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) is unequivocally condemning the vicious shooting committed by one of his campaign volunteers today, but he struck a different tone when Gabby Giffords was attacked in 2011.

Oh, please, let this be the one where politicians and ordinary citizens rise up and say, "I am responsible for protecting myself and my family, and no politician is going to deny me the ability to do so."

Long wait for a train that won't come

Getting back to the possible two round burst being heard. I think @trcubed sold his AR with the 80% lower that had the doubling issue to this guy.:D

Shame some of those representatives weren't armed. Sounds like they may have done a better job of killing the SOB.

It's bad when you have to scream at the cops for 5 minutes to shoot the bastard, instead of screaming at him to put the gun down.

Well to be fair they were practicing softball. Not many ways to have your gun secured in a comfortable way.

That's what I was seeing on TV this morning. If they are correct it would be interesting to find out how he got ahold of military grade weapons.

If he did, it wouldn't come out.

Perhaps it was one of those ARs that get lost/stolen from the PD? Are they select fire? I have no idea, I've never been that close to one.

I am thinking the Naval Yard shooter used a shotgun but my CSR is kickin' up ...
I think you're right.

Didn't the Dallas Police shooter use an Russian Military weapon? Wiki says Ak-74.

Pulse shooter used a Sig MCX.
Oh, if memory serves, it was the Dallas police shooter who used a SKS, or at least that was the early report after all the usual assault rifle talk died down and they got some specifics. But could be after that, they corrected to AK-74.

Yep, LEOs can order FA SBRs direct from Colt for less than $1100 each and get them delivered by UPS in less than 2 weeks ... that was the last department order I remember.

It isn't how you mean the posts to come across folks. It's others perceptions of these posts that can cause us issues.

I know what you're saying Mr Gummer, but I'm long past believing "if only we act nice they'll begin to accept us" stage.

They won't . Ever.

I think he is more referring to the "we" as a forum at large. Things posted here are not hidden.

Oh, I understood that.

"We" should say what we feel, without worrying about what "they" will think about it.

My post wasnt about anyone accepting us. It'll never happen. I'm smarter than that. My post was referring to people's shitty posts being twisted by outsiders and it causing issues for the forum.

The Spin Machine in full swing:

"It's gotten to the point where most people can limit their hate and anger to a Facebook post, but as we all know there are people with mental illness who can take that to the next level and make the decision to turn violent," Kinzinger said.

Not "real," everyday progressive Democrats like us! It's mental illness.

Northwestern University political science professor Alvin Tillery said the political rhetoric seems to get amplified by social media. The suspect had a long history of angry social media postings.

"We are in a period of hyperpolarization, and this is problematic, but I do want to remind Americans that this is nowhere near the worst we have seen in our country," Tillery said.

And, as we already know, "political rhetoric" comes from both sides, and both are equally responsible for "amplification" through social media-- it has nothing to do with the Gloriously Objective Voice of the People Altruistically Providing Neutral Information Dispersal on your local TV, Radio, Newspaper, and Google Search.

Tillery pointed out that during the 1890s, Reconstruction, there were political lynchings and assassinations. It was also pretty violent during the 1960s. In that decade, both President John F. Kennedy and U.S. Attorney General/presidential candidate Robert Kennedy were assassinated.

Interesting time to be mentioning political lynchings and assassinations, no?

Ted Nugent has an epic rant on Facebook about this but I can't figure out how to crosspost the video. Bottom line to him is "Being a sitting duck is a choice. Carry a gun."

The media has a hand in this. They will never admit it, but they thrive on vitriol, sensationalism, and divisive hate. I hope they are happy.

But what disturbed me the most this morning was ABC News. Within 30 minutes of the shooting, the producers had already prepared their dossier on it being about guns and gun violence. They had printouts of all the shootings in the past few years. That is what they keyed on. Not the root cause or the fact they had whipped up the left in a frenzy over Trump to the point something like this happened...no, it was the gun's fault.

Makes me sick to my stomach.

It's always the guns fault even though it's an inanimate object. Incapable of action without input from someone. The same way that the SUV kills family of three, as if it has a mind of it's own. First time I find my truck driving around the yard without me, it's dead!

No body wants to admit and own their actions, always blame it on someone/something else. No personal responsibility.... "It wasn't my fault"..... "I couldn't help it"..... But since we can't/won't hold an individual responsible and punish them accordingly we turn to the inanimate object since it can't defend itself..... Where does this train of thought come from??

In another universe I think back to Tiger Woods and his last DUI. For so many days there was not talk about how Woods put the lives of other drivers at risk by his almost unconscious state at the wheel. Yet all those days people were examining the medications he was taking, this and that. They were treating him as the victim of the drugs for the most part.

Scalise status has been upgraded to critical condition according to the news this morning. Anyone else heard of this?

Yes, and fairly SOP in ICUs for organ damage from GSWs.....

If it was an SKS that would mean a 7.62x39 at under a 100 yards in the hip/pelvic area. I don't know what damage was done but I could see major bone damage, then what type of trauma the various cavitation types induce on the lower organs to pure shock to the body. Lower intestine, bladder, even pancreas and kidneys are so close the cavitation could damage them. He was alert and responsive so the critical level is likely going to be a precaution and he'll be upgraded quickly progress allows.

Yes, to all. Aside from soft tissue damage and skeletal damage, there will be quite a bit of secondary edema and a risk for infection. The first 72 hours are critical, and there will be follow-on surgeries. The fact he is alert/oriented is excellent.

Agreed it could be any number of "causes" for the change to critical condition ranging from protocol due to his injuries, to him having a fever and they think he could be septic to all the way up to MODS (multiple organ death) however, as was previously stated by @Chuckman this first 72-96 hours are the crucial time in his treatment.

Firearms used by Bernie supporter were legally purchased.

Relevant portion of FBI statement:

The shooter's weapons recovered at the scene include a 9 mm handgun and a 7.62 caliber rifle. ATF has conducted traces on these weapons and has determined that both were purchased by the shooter from federal firearms licensees. We currently have no evidence to suggest that the purchases were not lawful. The FBI has processed the shooter's vehicle, a white conversion van, which was parked in the parking lot of the YMCA directly adjacent to the park where the shooting took place. From that vehicle, the FBI has recovered and is processing a cell phone, a computer, and a camera.
