If you could only have one handgun, what would it be?

Not very exciting but I'd stick with my S & W Shield 9mm. I can shoot it very well and it's reliable.
And that is exactly what matters. If you can hit with it and depend on it not failing what else is there to know? I bought a CSX when it first came out. I would not depend on it to fire at a tin can shoot much less a life or death situation. It had what seemed like a 35 pound trigger pull with 18.5 inches of travel (exaggeration but it was bad). Now S&W makes a good weapon usually but this time they really missed the mark. With that said my wife has a Shield in 30 Super Carry. She loves it and so do I.. That is a fine weapon and fine caliber as well. I would not have her trade it for anything because she likes it, she shoots it awesome well and its dependable. That is reason to be excited over any gun.

Genuinely curious, how did the selection process flow to end up at 30 Super Carry. No intent to harrass you on the choice, or argue merrits etc, That's what works for you so it's A-OK, just curious as to the thought process. I haven't heard anyone who went with that caliber ever discuss.

Technically it’s one gun.stock slide and barrel for rolling in the mud. Ed brown fuel slide and holosun for everything else

I hate Glocks with a passion. But it would be a Glock 19. Because they are probably the most popular handgun on the planet. For end of the world shit.

If not end of world, a staccato p.

Dang, that option would have made it easier…I guess I’ll just go with the G20, 10mm, swap out barrels for different caliber.

No problem with you asking whatssoever. Ok she had a 357 revolver she was never crazy about for conceal carry. I did not argue that point. So we go looking for a conceal carry semi-auto for her. We looked at 9mm mostly. I personally consider 9mm the least round for self-defense. No offense there 380 carriers just not my choice. She never found a 9mm she liked. A friend in a gun shop showed her a S&W in 30SC. She said if felt good in her hand and she liked the size. I excused myself and went outside and got on my phone and looked up the ballistic specs. I liked what I saw. Then I got to shoot the range gun and so did she. We were sold. I have since started to reload rounds. The bottom line is she liked the weapon and she liked the round and I figured a weapon she felt comfortable and would carry with her was a not loser..

It has the energy and velocity to do the job well. I think it is close to the Federal 327 magnum but in a semi-auto form???

Sounds logical to me. Thanks for the detailed response.

Have you had a chance to reload yet? Or is that just a down the road?

I have reloaded a couple of hundred rounds. I have her save her self defense ammo "HST" and I load her mid-range target rounds. I have worked quite a recipe for a good 15 yard group. I use Berrys bullets FMJ for her to practice. At first brass was hard to come by but several sources are trickling it out now.

With a second barrel/upper allowed, I'd go with a 1911 45 with a 22 LR upper.

Otherwise I'd pick a S&W model 10 heavy 4" barrel in 38 Special.
I’ve played this game for real for 3 yrs in Germany. Took my custom 1911 with Colt .22LR conversion. Runner up would be a 4” S&W Model 66

Oh cool deal. Glad to hear it's going so smooth. Final question, what is the weight on the Berrys you are working with?

i wouldn’t turn my hand for the difference, M-9 or G-19
This thread shall be amended for you.

If I could have just one handgun fall out of the truck when I open the door...

:D

19 all the way

Wouldn’t trade this gun for the world. It’s my do all EDC/HD/comp gun and she’s perfect to me

I think the OP should have more specific as to “one gun”. Judging by the answers.

One gun for defense?
One gun for accuracy?
One gun for Hunting?
One gun for everything?

Defense seems to suggest a Hi Cap, 9mm polymer.
Accuracy: 1911
Hunting : 44 mag revolver ( But the real answer is a T/C Contender
All-around : .357 wheel gun.

I really want to say my Colt lightweight commander in 38 super but for only one gun I am leaning to my full size Xdm in 9mm.

I choose the one on the left because my Dad gave it to me as a reward for quitting smoking in 2004.

Several years later he gave me the one on the right because hell, he done gave me the other one.

My Glock 23. Seldom mentioned by me but it would be the one. Shoots well, Carries well, Night Sights, green laser or light at my discretion. Lots of magazines and ammo at hand. She goes two ways…40 or 9mm.ADF70363-258D-46C7-B4D0-DE96BE1DD3B7.jpeg
