Mandalorian Season 2 Thread ***Spoilers May Be Inside!

When you look at the original Cylon it is even a bigger rip off.

You know what's really cool about this?

Boba Fett first made an appearance in the Star Wars Holiday Special, in November 1978.

Battlestar Galactica first aired in September 1978.

So we know she this first came!

That’s was pretty cool. Boba ain’t the good guy we were all led to believe. Crime Boss of Tattooine now.

OK if you have not watched it leave the discussion now!!!!!! HUGE SPOILERS AHEAD! Countdown 60 seconds......

For me it was the green saber. Watching him cut through the dark troopers was sweeet.

To start: wow, loved it. Excellent show! I’ll admit, as one who hasn’t kept up with all the cartoons and stuff I was really kinda worried I’d have no idea who the Jedi was going to be. But when he pulled back the robe I was super surprised and excited.

Is there going to be a season 3, or just the Boba spin off?

Does this mean they're expanding to 2 shows next year?

Mandalorian is due to return Christmas of 2021. I am sure anyone knows how the Boba spinoff will work. It was not part of the big announcement the other day by Disney. I loved him sitting on the Hut throne with Fennec Shand siting on the side drinking space whiskey. From all indications it will be a stand alone show. Spinoff #3 from The Mando. The Book of Fett.

So did Bo Katan die?

No she is seen standing up as the Gogru leaves with The Jedi. However she is screwed because she did not take the Dark Saber from Moff G in battle and cannot accept it peacefully for the second time. As Moff G states its power is in the story. Her plans to resurrect Mandalore are in serious jeopardy.

Yeah, totally awesome!
A whole year is going to suck...
They’ll be rolling out Marvel stuff...if that’s a semi-substitute to get you through. 😁

I'm glad they brought Ming Na back from the dead. I've been in love with her since she was in The Single Guy.

But wasn't she an ally of Moff Gideon. If you remember he was the one who she was waiting on in the first season.

I was a little disappointed. a room *full* of seasoned warriors with two proven weapons in hand known to be effective vs the current bad guy chooses to cower wait for doom to arrive. JKLS was cool but that moment was out of character for the rest of them.

And next year will probably be 6 effin' episodes for the season.
I’m glad I’m not just being a grumpy ass when I observe this same laziness of studios cutting shows short. All of them are guilty of it. Maybe it’s because we viewers expect movie-quality production for shows and they’re off the hook expensive now?

This switch happened right under our noses. It wasn't long ago that we had normal-length seasons like 24, BSG...

Justified had only 13 shows but they were hour-long (43 min).

I digress...

If I am playing it back in my mind correctly I believe that once they saw "The Jedi" cutting down the Dark Troopers it made more sense to stay where they were. Bo Katan says its a Jedi as soon as the green saber is deployed. If JKLS does not appear I assume they would have been forced as some point to fight their way out. It was very similar to the season finale from season 1. Even with the Dark Saber and the Beskar Speer it would have been hard slogging to beat the battalion of Dark Troopers.

She was a bounty hunter and assassin. She worked for whoever was paying her.

Fennec Shand is an elite mercenary. She made her name killing for all the top crime syndicates, including the Hutts. If you go after her, you won't make it past sunrise."―Din Djarin

There are 2 reasons for this. You hit on the first. Cost is a major issue. By season 8 Game of Thrones cost $15 million dollars per episode. WW 1984 cost $200 millon to make. So if you were to make a standard 20-26 episode season you are looking at $300+ Millon and the direct return on the cost is nowhere near the return on a major blockbuster movie in the theaters. Subscription services have to drag it out to keep people subscribed. This is exactly what HBO did wit GOT. It was the bridge to HBO Max.

The second reason is syndication. Most shows historically go to syndication after 80+ episodes. The reason a lot of network shows when to 30 episode seasons was so they could go to syndication faster. With streaming you can't go to syndication you need to keep your content to keep paid subscribers. That is why a show like Mr Robot still did 20+ shows a season because they were then able to syndicate to the paid services like Netflix. Often syndication makes more money than the first run of a show. That is why the Law and Order franchise has made so much money.

But I REALLY wanted to watch them try.

Btw did anyone else think this looked like an ending?

It was 100% a closing of a "chapter". I believe we will see Grogu again but he will not be the primary focus of the Mandalorian going forward. It will be about Mando and the planet of Mandalore. IMHO

Very surprised to see a young Luke save the day. It also pinned down the time frame for this show.

As someone who saw Star Wars in the theaters as a kid, it is hard to keep track of what happens when with this franchise. And no, I dont refer to Star Wars as "episode 4", it was and is Star Wars #1. 😉

I'm sure smarter people have pinned it down better, but they refer to both death stars having been blown up. the empire has fallen, and the new republic is young and trying to run things. boba has been around without his armor for quite a while.... my big surprise is that luke was still shown as being so young. I figured it would be set a good few years later than it now seems to be.
I just looked some stuff up and apparently mandalorian is set only ~5years after RotJ - that's crazy.
But I guess most of the legend is already written, so they have to be careful. better to go where no mando has gone before if they don't want to totally step all over the ultra fans who have every bit of trivia memorized (as seen in this thread).

I'm also surprised that everything from phantom menace to mando seems to only be taking about 50 years. seems like a time of great upheaval.
