Mandalorian Season 2 Thread ***Spoilers May Be Inside!

If I had tapped into such a goldmine as Favreau, I would be spinning off everything...we would have:

"Tales of the Dark Trooper guys"
"The Adventures of Gina Carano in Space"
"Baby Grogu, the early years"
"TK 1232, A Troopers Tale"

Heck...id give that sea monster that tried to eat Mando a movie including action figures and a Christmas special.

Gogru the Baby Yoda is getting his own show?

Wouldn't surprise me.

Disney is opening up the Star Wars universe beyond the ever-present Light/Dark Force storyline. And that's a good thing. There are plenty of other characters, planets, and people to flesh out the Star Wars universe and I'll be hapoy to see it happen.

The Mandalorian needs to go on being about The Mandalorian and his people. There're worlds of stuff to open up there.

FWIW...we watched the Christmas special (animated/Lego) last night. They’re celebrating Life Day instead of Christmas...so I guess it’s really a Holiday Special.

It was neat in the sense that it went back through several movies. Wife said it was barely even entertaining. I liked it a lot more, mainly because I really like the Lego games (Marvel, Jurassic World, etc) on my son’s XBox and PS4.

I'm on episode 7 of season 2 right now.

What I'd want, most of all, is a look from the other side.

Werner Herzog, in season 1, mentioned that everywhere was lawless, and that in every metric the Empire made things better. Of course, he would say that. Right afterwards, we got the 'existential troopers' living their daily life, and apparently showing the Moff killing random officers.

Then in season 2, we see the New Republic stretched thin, lawlessness, mentions that the NR, which started in the Outer Rim to overthrow the core's empire, now is in the core, and is ignoring the outer rim. We see slavers fill in the vaccuum of the empire.

I'd like to see a show from the side of the Empire, see their perspective. I think it'd be quite interesting.

In an attempt to explain partly why the Mandalorian has been embraced by the Star Wars fan community while some of the movies have not, I tried to explain the concept of "fan service" and why it is such a big deal. In Star Wars, I told her, it means showing themes, characters, places and objects that have appeared over the previous 40+ years of Star Wars in movies, animation, books, comics and even toys.

Our son is a big anime fan, so I explained that "fan service" is also important in anime. In anime, though, "fan service" mostly means boobs.

The episode where we the TIEs rescue Mando and Bill Burr, I audibly cheered. It was so odd cheering for the Empire.

And then when Mando and Bill exited the Juggernaut, the Stormtroopers were cheering, giving pats on the back, hugging, etc. It gave the Empire humanity, would love to see more of that

One shouldn't confuse the soldiers with the government.

As I was typing that comment, I was thinking of making a distinction between the two but decided not to. Big difference between the humanity of your average Joe Stormtrooper and people like Thrawn, Tarkin, and Sidious

I haven't seen that one, but I clearly remember the 1978 Star Wars Christmas Special. I watched it at my Grandmother's house. It was truly terrible. It came on a year and a half after the original Star Wars, at a time when we really did not know if there was going to be a second movie (there was a three year delay before Empire Strikes Back). Remember, this was long before the internet. This Christmas Special also had parts about Chewie's family celebrating Life Day, a very poorly animated Boba Fett cartoon, a couple of "comedy" sketches, Chewie's dad watching VR porn (well, kinda), and Bea Arthur doing a musical number in the cantina. The whole thing was so awful that some of us feared that the next movie would be trash as well.

Although very few people had some type of video recording device at the time, a couple of people did manage to tape it. You can find it on Youtube, if you are a glutton for punishment.

It will be interesting, if they do retcon the sequel trilogy (not sure if they will hope it), if they'll introduce yuuzhong vong, and make them more hard people preparing the galaxy for a war the likes never seen. That would be interesting, too interesting for them to do that with Kathleen Kennedy in charge.

Could make for a good animated show. Watch things fall apart and see Kylo Ren studying with Luke's other students. Kind of like watching Anakin get lured to the dark side in Clone Wars.
I'll never be too old to enjoy a well done cartoon - you can tell a good story without all the constraints of actors.

My sister got me this sweetttt book, huge wealth of knowledge on all things Star Wars. Released 2020 so it’s up-to-date with the movies, shows, etc.

Can’t wait to dive in

Just watched S2:E1 of Gallery, the behind-the-scenes show. Say what you want about Kennedy, the SJW stuff we’ve had to put up with in movies, and all your other complaints...but what Filoni and Favreau are doing is genius. Both with the technology side of things, and digging into all things canon.

Really enjoyed the episode. Still have no idea how many there will be.

I am glad that the various Star Wars series never went very deep into Lucas' vision of the Force. It is pretty loopy.
From Wookiepedia:
"Star Wars creator George Lucas intended the Whills to be microscopic single-celled life-forms who were essentially God;[7] the will of the Force.[8] Maintaining a symbiotic relationship with the midi-chlorians, the Whills fed off the Force and controlled the universe, offering destinies[7] to sentients such as Anakin Skywalker, who was destined to be the Chosen One of the Force to act as the tool by which balance was restored to the Force—to restore balance and harmony to all of life by destroying those who violated and would continue violating the symbiosis of life; users of the corruptive, addictive force of the dark side."

I’m glad they kept it just the midi-chlorians. These “Whills” sound too much like a puppet master where no one can make their own destiny.

Yeah...shades of L. Ron Hubbard and Scientology.

We don't need any more of that stuff.

Got this email from Disney+ today. For us dum dums that can’t recite the imperial alphabet by memory or don’t know which gonad of a tam-tam you can drink from in an emergency:

That's actually pretty nice of them.
I'm like 4 episodes in to clone wars and i keep having to remind myself that it's in between 2 and 3. I saw 2 and 3 in theaters when they were new and that was about it for those ones.

Off Topic tangent:
Speaking of L. Ron Hubbard, if you have not seen 2000's Battlefield Earth movie, you should. It is truly, astoundingly bad. I recommend watching it for that very reason unless you know that this kind of schlock really bothers you. It is currently on Amazon Prime Video. I had read that it was terrible, but it was worse than I expected. It bombed so hard that it was near impossible to find copy to watch for many years. Bad plot. Bad dialog. Bad acting. Bad plot twists (believe me, you will love some of these). Even terrible prosthetics, particularly the hands and the platform boots used to make the background baddies look taller.

I read the book in the early 90s. I was excited when the movie was announced. I thought with Travolta being the main character, it would be a movie that was done right.

Then I saw it on the big screen. To say I was disappointed would be an understatement. I knew it would be difficult to condense the book down to movie format, but its like the writers didn't even try. The acting, was beyond horrible, the SFX were laughable. This movie was so bad it makes Sharknado look like masterpiece.

The book was really good. That movie is one of the very few I walked out of.
