Snowmageddon 2017

Where can I get a sled for my kids?
If any stores still have inflatable pool rafts, those will work until they tear. Also a truck shop might sell you some innertubes.

Nothing here in Lake Normanopolis but it's only 2pm with temp at 43deg. Yesterday I went out and filled up the tank in the truck and got 5gal of diesel. I should be set.

We have a full freezer of ham, brats and leftovers. Forgot the propane! Dang it!!

At 4:54pm I see SNOW FLAKES!!!! Ahem, sorry...

Just a little rain in my area right now. I would not mind a total shutdown for the next few days or longer.

I have plenty of snacks / booze for me and snacks / soft drinks for the kiddos.

If the power goes out we have a gas fire place for heat, if that fails we have a kerosene heater and a fair supply of 1-K.

Oil lamps are in their decorative locations but can quickly be put into use as working lamps.

Plenty of food that doesn't need to be cooked / heated, but plenty of propane for the grill, the Coleman stove, or Jetboil if anyone wants a hot meal.

Phones and iPads are charged and loaded with shows, games, books, etc.

Snow shovel is at hand and the windshield wipers have been put in the upright position to prevent them freezing to the windshield.

I had no plans to go out anywhere yesterday, today or beyond until the roads are clear.

I did go out earlier today to pick up a bottle of castor oil for use in a "homemade" shaving lotion. Lines were long and the cashier said they were much much longer yesterday.

Stay warm and stay safe everyone.

I second the cardboard, if you have any candles rub the "bottom" of the cardboard with the candle and wax it up. Helps to keep the cardboard from saturating with water too quickly and if the snow / ice is right it aids the slide ... at least it always seemed to.

Edit to add: Ace Hardware or True Value Hardware may have sleds.

Rain is gonna wash the pre-treatment off the roads....
No kidding! Insult to injury, this is the first time in 14 years they have treated the cul-de-sacs in our neighborhood.

Sleeting in Climax. It was spitting snow in Greensboro around 3:30 and the further south I came, the harder it was sleeting.

Been snowing here for 20 minutes, grass covered, asphalt driveway still not. The predictions were for around 7. Missed the mark again. Surprise

Where are you?

OH, the humanity. I think I only have 4 beers in the house. If the thing goes on longer than a couple days I'll have to start drinking whisky, vodka and rum.
Let me know when that happens, I'll be right over.

Changed to snow now.

Got a couple inches here in WNC. First real snow of the season. More like a pussy cat than a lion at the moment. Gravel drive coated. Decks Covered. The reports say more is coming. Roads are clear but a few dingbats have already crashed on the slippery roads.

West of AVL,, got maybe an inch around 3-4PM. Nothing since then.

We'll see what the night brings.

Ok, I know it's difficult to break away from the Cosplay thread...
  • When did the snow start?
  • How much at what time?
  • What do you plan to do for the next 24hrs?
  • The good, bad and ugly points of this storm?

* How many babies will be born in 9 months?

Remember Snowmageddon2015? Yeah, that's how my youngest got here. Answers question 3.....

I have about 2 cases of beer, a bottle of Gin and 2 bottles of vodka on site. If this is a serious storm I may die.

I have the blade on the tractor and plenty of wood on the back porch and 400+ pounds of rice.....

And a bathroom to paint, i'm good....
I like rice. Rice with beans, rice with hot sauce, rice with milk, rice with rice.

Drove Hwy 1 from Raleigh to Pinehurst just after midnight. Roads were wet but not bad at all. Sleet/rain mix through about Sanford. Steam rising from the road when I pulled into my development in P'hurst.

2am, about 3" and mixed sleet\snow. I just hope it doesn't turn to freezing rain.

Grass is poking through a dusting of snow and roads are just wethere between Weddington and Waxhaw. Stayed north of us pretty much as expected.
