What's for lunch?

If you are ever in Garner, NC, check out Angie’s. It is really good home cooking! I had not been down that way in awhile, so a stopped in on my way through. This place had a crazy number of waitress, food runners, and cook staff. It has to be the most I have seen in a restaurant, since pre-pandemic. And…. And.. they were super friendly and attentive! I know weird, right!

2 Fried Chops
Mashed taters and gravy
Corn fritters
Cornbread
Apple cobbler (comes with the meal, not extra)

I've been meaning to stop by there but every time I pass the place it is absolutely packed.

There’s a reason it stays packed. Give’em a try, you’ll be glad you did. I have not had a bad meal or experience there, to date. Great for breakfast too.

In the past I would switch up breakfast btwn Angie’s and Toot N Tell, just around the corner. Unfortunately, Toot N Tell is no longer in business 😞

Just south of there is Lefler’s that I recently learned about in Mt Gilead. Smoked chicken on Thursdays and ribs on Fridays. Pork available the rest of the time.

Maybe you should take pics and write a coffee table book about NC B’cue and motorcycles. Might be some side money in it.

I was bummed to see Toot N Tell closed. I used to eat there on a regular basis many moons ago.

In case you missed it on the Scallop thread.
Fresh NC Bay Scallops sautéed in EVOO and minced garlic, then hit with a touch of butter at the end over jasmine rice. They were sweet and tender!!

That looks great! I will definitely give that place a try
The food was really good and surprisingly inexpensive. In the picture is:
Second picture (apetizer)
Pupusa with cheese
Curtido (cole slaw)
Main Meal
Steak, chicken leg, link of chorizo, 4 large shrimp, a pork chop, a piece of grilled cactus, grilled shallots (I think), rice, beans, and guacamole. The pupusa was probably the best I've had. I really liked the guacamole and the chorizo.

Before tip, it was under $20 and I easily brought half of it home or it would have certainly been enough for two to share.

I’m pretty sure Alpaca puts crack on their food. Everything was excellent, but those green beans are really good.

lunch at DPRC today.
ate too much of everything.
banana pudding was the first
item that "sold out".

No pics, sorry. We ate a shrimp burger at Backwater Jacks Tiki bar in Washington today. Pretty good. They use medium shrimp, not popcorn. I put my side of slaw on it, some tater sauce and a touch of ketchup. The French fries were really good. Saturdays are my cheat days so....

That’s a good place to eat for sure and the shrimp burger is a good one. hopefully you were able to get over to the river walk, as it was a nice day.

We hung out at the boat ramp for a few, then headed to Bath. The updates to the museum were pretty nice. They just moved to the old school the last time we were there and only had a Giftshop. Granted the gift shop needs a lot of help but still a pretty cool stop for a half hour or so.

I was going to take the Ferry over to Aurora but I was a little late and the next Ferry was an hour away so we took off to Belhaven and came back home.

Nice day trip! All great places for sure. Love the old St Thomas Episcopal church in Bath… it’s @ 280 years old give or take. Belhaven and Aurora are great sleepy little towns, laid back and slow paced.. love it. I launch out of Aurora from time to time for fishing… some of those waterways feel like a throwback in time.

Stopped at Sonny’s for a bowl before they leave the menu again.

Rode the bike out to Carthage and ate at Pik N Pig today. Quite tasty and saw a few planes come in and take off. We were the only non-Harley there. I counted 6 hogs. We were the only Pig.... :)

Ate at Parker’s BBQ in Wilson, again today. This place was packed. Not a table open, parking lot was full and a line out the door waiting to get in.

NC born and raised…. And a country boy through and through, but after trying a bite of one again today, I am still not sure who eats corn sticks or why they would.

More like brunch, I suppose.

Grilled wild hog sausage (less mess that way) that my SIL and I made, and eggs that my chickens made, fried in butter.

I might need a nap.

I guess I’ll join the brunch crew with Troy…

Wife sends me this text:

D27824C5-B0DC-446E-BADD-BD162DFA98DC.jpeg

She normally eats ~11a and then supper. So I asked if we were going early, or waiting until 11. The answer was “now”. So we both piddle around cleaning up for few minutes and then I ask if she decided which one we were going to. She starts looking at the menus and decides on Mike’s. Then she sends me this screenshot from a review:

…and I ask why she sent it to me. Her response? “I thought you were going to go pick it up and bring it home while I’m cleaning the bathrooms?” Funny that detail was never mentioned.

$28 later…

I had ham, turkey, roast beef, swiss and 1000 island on an asiago bagel:

She had whatever this is, which wasn’t on the menu, but I read him the quote I posted above:

I may have also gotten a french toast bagel that disappeared before I got home. 😎

Not necessarily the main course, but I’ll be snackin’ on it today. Snickerdoodle Chex mix. Chocolate Chex, Cinnamon Chex, popcorn…plus cinnamon, sugar and butter.

My first taco truck, 4 campechano (grilled chorizo & steak) tacos with grilled jalapeño on the side.
Awesome possum.

Is this the truck near the corner of 50hwy / 98hwy? If so, they are pretty good. Try the taco truck that’s near the BoJangles in Wake Forest (near 98hwy / US1), Tacos El Gordo… they are really good!

Also, another great place in Franklinton, NC is TOROS TACOS Y TEQUILA. They are really good and fresh! I am working my way through all of them and have not had a bad taco yet….. and the passion fruit juice must have crack in it.. sooo guuud
